I'm not sure about that... that is not really an elevator so much as a stabilator. Remember, with helicopters, "deck angle" is not related directly to angle of attack; the rotating wings can be adjusted independent of the fuselage. Stabilators on helicopters are more for adjusting the pitch angle of the fuselage for visibility. If the stabilator was lost or damaged, the pilot would still have full control, just less visibilty in extreme angle of attack situations. And I'm confident this guy could see where he was going very well.
My guess is that it looks like the altitude was the main factor (elevation of the town of Sharana is over 6,000 MSL, and this might have been higher, outside of town ). When he first passes by, that pullup is intentional- the "return to target" maneuver is like a near-hammerhead from a low altitude, to turn around quickly. Normally not a problem for a combat pilot.
Then as he comes back, he may have attempted another one, or maybe he was looking to descend rapidly land at that spot... either way, he ran out of lift, and could not slow the rate of descent to pull up in time.
I could be wrong, but it looks like classic "showboating" gone wrong, because he forgot about the density altitude.

I doubt he was trying to land. You would be correct with the showboating. He just didn't pull out in time. Density altitude may have been a contributing factor, but at the end of the day, pilot error.

No, it is a whole lot simpler than that Alex. At around, during or a fraction just after 23 seconds of video, the pilot ran out of talent

Looks like he will be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog $hit out of Hong Kong for the rest of his career!

Might be spending the rest of his career paying (literally) for a certain amount of stupidity.
