This one might hit a little closer to home, since it was conducted by

Joshua Howard sounds & acts like a
.
This what he said when he was asked about why third-party wasn't allowed:
Quote:
we needed to increase our investment in other, more important areas.
It's a game:

However, our data reinforces that Flight already has a much wider audience profile than past products in the franchise, and those people are asking for us to improve the product in a variety of other ways (many of which are about improving the quality of the game, like adding
leaderboards,
multiplayer missions,
or
new challenge types
).

Not sounding promising for us 'simmers.' I can understand that they need to work out what is best able to keep the product viable, but I imagine my home State of Tasmania is going to be something I will be kept waiting a long long time for

Tasmania will probably come ahead of New Zealand though.

The general idea is to make a game that is suitable for all users... But they seem to be missing out on the fact that not all features have to be exploited by every single person.
If they did long haul flights, it would not appeal to the casual gamers - But they would not be forced into doing those flights. If they don't like them... Don't do them!
It's like a smartphone... It has a lot of features, it has a lot of apps, games and wallpapers... But for those people who want an electronic talking machine, they can still just use the phone feature and nothing else.
I don't think they quite get that point.

One place Australia doesn't come ahead of New Zealand is Sport.
Guess who won the Rugby World Cup.

That whole interview boils down to one line.
"We don't give a rat's ass about 'hardcore simmers' and if you don't like it, too bad..."
Screw MS...
Even if they did offer an FS11, I'm sure I'd buy it at this point...
Can you say "SPIN..."
Quote:
TA: We took a very informal poll of third party developers for MS FSX / FS9, and found that many feel that they have been unfairly treated by you and your team in the lead up to FLIGHT. Given the almost universal nature of the replies, we conclude this is not an isolated sentiment. That being the case, do you have any intentions to rebuild MS’ relations with these developers? Or, do you even perceive that a problem with 3PD’s exist?
JH: It was a very difficult decision to put our 3rd party development plans on hold when we did, which I believe was the primary cause for the frustration these fine developers have had. Ultimately, though, we decided that with our available resources, as a business, we needed to increase our investment in other, more important areas. As a team we initially wanted to do it all – deliver an experience that could bring whole new audiences into flight, but also deliver all of the features the simmer holds dear, including support for the 3rd party ecosystem. The team started working with some 3rd parties, so when we had to back away from them it was bound to upset some of them. We do intend to reach back out to these developers, as well as to new developers, as we work to scale up our content offerings. I don’t have any concerns about our ability to build effective relationships with 3rd party content developers, whether they are from the existing pool of usual suspects or new faces.

I believe what you mean JoBee is that you can't always trust everything that comes out of Joshua Howard's mouth.

Wait,so,M$ essentialy says:
We have put hold on the 3'd party development because we don't want them to stop us earning more money.
Of course this upsets some of the ones involved.
If the game will decrease in popularity we will need to get some developers to make lots of money for us.
Just my interpetation.

Harsh. I think that they are saying that whatever happens, they will control any expansion, even by others. so developers may be licensed in some distant future to develop add ons but they will for certain be marketed through the MS market place and MS will therefore get a cut and control the development. Its the Apple business model and it is a no brainer for them.
I suppose it isnt unreasonable. I would also object if I had created a game and only made money out of the initial sale while others then make money out of add ons. so I dont object to the business model as such. But I believe that MS should embrace the simmer world and third party development sooner rather than later and thus make this game grow faster and more succesfully. Sure, strictly controlled etc. This would also generate more revenue for them. They are not stupid. they know all this and I expect to see agreements with third party developers in the not too distant future. however one thing is certain, free add ons are dead for a long time to come, if not for ever in Flight.

Cusance I can understand why MS might not want Third-party Payware, but freeware is a completely different thing.
Freeware is the blood & bones of FS & I'm sad that MS don't recognise that.
