Well sure. Now it's called targeted advertising.

If someone knocks on your door or rings you up to sell said kettle, then you can't get much more targeted than that. Targeted advertising is just a new name for an old product, nothing more, and a name that some advertising guru got paid a $hit load to come up with.

But if you look up Kettles on Goggle you either want to buy a new Kettle, or you’re weird.

So the advertising may be helpful. At less it would be better than random ads about married women.

What about when curiosity has got the best of you. Quite a few "things" I Google, I would not buy our have the balls to buy.........I would still line my postman to carry on delivering to my door and not to the curb and then run away  Grin

Baloney.  If a salesman came to your door trying to sell you a kettle, he didn't take every scrap of personal information he could wring out of you, bundle it with 20,000,000 other people's info, then sell it to the highest bidder without your consent.

Again, you guys seem to think there is something wrong with privacy.  Where do you think all of this identity theft is coming from these days?  Because people accept that lack of privacy like it's nothing.   Tongue

It all comes down to what you tell them. Most people on these social networking sites seem happy to tell the World about things they wouldn't tell their best friend in the real world. I've always been careful about the details I reveal in my personal profile on Google or even forums like this.

Even so, it's amazing what you can find out about people on the Internet if you know how.

Any salesman, internet or in person sells on such information and has done for years long before Google came along. In both cases, it is up to you how much information you give out. As long as you are not logged in to Google, then there is no real problem.

One could also use "ixquick". Not so well known yet, but I have a feeling that will soon change given their privacy policy. Wink
