I have a friend who lives in Western Kentucky and he completely lost his shed. I also have a friend who lives near Branson, Missouri and the only thing she has left is her house...  Shocked It took the barn, sheds, a huge grain bin and some other smaller buildings. There was minor damage to the house, but she lost nearly everything that wasn't inside or apart of her house.  Cry

There are parts of the World where it is always dangerous to live, and "Tornado Alley" is certainly one of them!

I am always amazed at the perseverance of the Folks who continue to live there, and start all over again, even after losing; "everything"!

They certainly are a plucky lot!

Paul.

Toddler found alive in Indiana field after storms

Quote:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - A hospital spokeswoman says a toddler found alive in an Indiana field after violent storms is the sole survivor of her immediate family.

Cis Gruebbel is a spokeswoman for Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Gruebbel says the toddler is in critical condition.

Washington County, Ind., Coroner Rondale Brishaber said the girl's mother, father, 2-month-old sister and 2-year-old brother all died in the storm ...

The Folks who live in Tornado Alley, and are fully prepared to stay there, suffer the consequences, re-build their lives, come what may, are certainly a special breed!

Year by year, I read horror stories of the annual devastation in the Central and South-eastern regions affected by inclement weather, going back into the distant past.

And still Folks continue to live their lives there!
True grit?

I've been living in Tornado Alley (Kansas) for almost 5 years now and had no issues, and many people I've met are the same.  It does happen, but to me it seems to be less widespread than the media wants us to believe.  Tornadoes do happen, and when they do it's awful for those affected, but it's not like living in the midwest is signing a death warrant.

Haven't had to much to deal with in the north here, though our worst tends to be in the late spring or in the fall.  The devastation reaches much farther then the areas actually hit, the families effected by the loss of loved ones stretches far, or the survivors now displaced.  A friend of mine and his wife are ok, but lost everything down in Henryville, luckily they were not home when it hit, now staying in my spare bedroom for awhile.  He says they will return though, that is where they were happy and though it will take time they will get past it.

Its all a matter of perspective, might seem crazy to want to return to the same location after such a disaster, but when you find that place where your happy you are willing to put up with the risks that might be involved.  In reality no where in the world is truly safe from nature, be it tornadoes, wild fires, earthquakes, etc etc.  Just have to learn to deal with it and be prepared should something happen.  The true cost of a disaster is not the material things, they can be replaced, it is the lives that are lost, the one thing money can never buy...

And sadly the little girl that survived has now died Cry
