Inspired partly by Microsoft's Flight non-event I've set a new challenge for myself - premise being - what if the Hawaiian islands were all there was in FSX?
The plan is to spend a few weeks getting the most out of the available scenery (and mesh) for the area in a variety of ways.
Kicked off on the least interesting of the major Hawaiian islands... Big Island. Least interesting in FS anyway, due to the lack of addons for it (or I haven't found any, at least). In reality it's a fascinating and diverse place, of course...
Thought I'd try and take the default Bell chopper up to the top of one of those big hills they have there... without finding out exactly how big it is or what the ceiling of the copter is. Intelligent.

The 'hill' is really a volcano, as everyone knows, but it doesn't look very impressive in FS. In fact Mauna Kea is the highest mountain in the world if you count the bit that's under the sea. Eat that, Everest!

Anyway, my success was less than total...I had to give up. We ran out of puff. At least I knew what the Jetranger's ceiling was now cos I'd hit it; it was made of metal.

Sighing I headed back downhill and set my sights on Maui.

We're the Sweeney, son - and we haven't had any dinner.

The trip across the water to Maui was long and boring
or I imagine it would have been but I've got better things to do than shuffle across that in a 206
and it was with a sigh of relief that we arrived at the observatory on the beautiful island of Maui...

Cheers
