I told my wife she was lucky that thing wasn't within 500 miles of Fort Wayne.  I've never built a plane, but I have the original plans for this and would be willing to give it a shot.  Neal Loving is a personal hero of mine and I even went so far as to build one for FSX, but gave it up and never got it finished.  Maybe I should pick it up again.  I got pretty far on it...  Smiley

Neal Loving is possibly the greatest unknown story in aviation.  His name needs to be remembered up there with Linbergh, Earhardt, Jimmy Dolittle, etc not because of his accomplishments, which where noteworthy, but because of the adversity the man had to overcome.  Here is a video of him speaking on Youtube:

The original was painted a cream color and maroon combination and given the race number of '64' but was never raced.  After that, Loving repainted it to the blue and white scheme at the EAA museum and took it on an international tour hitting several Caribbean Islands and ending up in Jamaica.

There are several existing replicas, but I think you can count the number on one hand.  There is the original, one at the Sun-N-Fun museum in Lakeland, Fl (where I first encountered Loving's story) and I think I remember hearing of one more, and then there is this one.  It should be saved...

Here is the one in Lakeland.  The man who built it was actually the commander of a squadron of U2 spy planes.  Cool

I think i'll but it and put a Briggs & stratton in it 28hp, and attach a mower deck under it and build some fold up wings and make a Riding lawn mower out of it to mow my 5 acres, the neighborhood would just Shit ! Lips Sealed Lips Sealed Huh Huh

I dread to think how much that is going to cost to get it into the air, overall!

Its just an empty shell with no wings, engine, instruments, etc, certified Pilot, etc...etc..at the mo!

As much as I hate to admit it, Paul is probably right.  The thing has been in storage, but if the guy was going to cut it up for a playground toy, who knows how he handled it.  It probably would be as expensive as building one from scratch.

I wonder if this guy even knows what he has?

I think I'll pull the WR-1 project out of mothballs and fire up 3ds Max and see what I can do with it...

Time helps. If the buyer takes their time and taps into the EAA community it is completely doable. Remember, we are not talking about a Corsair or a Mustang here. It is a small, single place, single engine home-built racer. People with rather average incomes (and no aircraft building experience) build planes all the time. Usually it takes between 5 and 10 years to do, but with time this project is completely possible. If this hangs around until I graduate I will take a crack at it. I have never built a full size plane, but I know enough to learn whatever would be needed and I know I can use the local EAA chapter for guidance.

Aviation is all about conquering barriers and getting into the air!

Do you live in the states? If so you could hire a rollback to get it to you. Although if the bid is still 250 and sells as such,it may cost more to haul it then to buy it.  If you live overseas your best bet I would think is to call around your local cargo haulers. From there it would be a case of who can get it here to deliver it to the airport and get it to you there.....Also quite expensive im sure with customs and the like. Seems as though delivery is going to cost way more than the purchase but in the end worth it if it means a dream is being fulfilled. I'm going to be 38 this year in March and i've been chasing a camper dream of mine since a few years ago when my dad got his. I want one bad and don't want to be his age (god bless em) to enjoy it. Maybe this year I hope....Good luck!
