Does anyone have one of these?  The wifey got me an iPad2 for Christmas and I enjoy it a lot.  There are so many different things you can do with it, it's unbelievable.  I mainly use mine for ebooks, keeping track of my work stuff, astronomy, internet (of course), and I keep several old construction plans for airplanes on it just to study for the heck of it.  I do have some games, but honestly they're not serious games.  More like Angry Birds and such.

Great little device.  Made me want to get an iPhone, but my carrier doesn't support it.  Tongue

Why does everyone have the Ipad 2 or 1?

The samsung galaxy tab is actualy better in most things!
And the only things the Ipads win in are only slightly better.

I supose, the tab is probably more expensive...

Tell me about it!  We went to dinner the other night at a really nice Mexican restaurant.  As we sat there waiting on the food, I looked around and the wife was doing something on her iPhone, my son had my iPad playing a game and my daughter had my phone playing another game.  Nobody was talking to anyone else when we were supposed to be out as a family enjoying ourselves.  I quickly declared no more electronics for the rest of the evening and confiscated all three.  Can you imagine?  We actually had a real conversation with laughing and everything!  Smiley

Currently a Blackberry owner, but soon to back out of that market and move over to Android (probably the Motorola Droid RAZR)

I think the Android market offers a lot more - there are more competitors, so they have to work a lot harder to produce a better product. iPhone is an iPhone, iPad is an iPad, but there are dozens of Android devices, the software is constantly being updated (several entire generations of software in the past year). Besides, most Apple apps have a 'droid equivalent somewhere.

On the rare occasions that my beloved Children and Grandchildren visit me, within seconds of arriving, they have all got out their various electronic button Gizmos, and proceed to prod them continuously, whist waiting to be fed with cups of Tea, and completely ignoring me, until it is time for them to leave again!

I hate the bloody; "proddy things", with a vengeance!... Angry...!

I get really angry when I see people using them in public...(and in my Living Room!).

There is a good solution to this. Everyone puts their phones/other electronic devices in the middle of the table face down, first person to pick theirs up to answer a call or message pays for the meal. Or if at home, does the washing up.

iPad 2 owner and android phone user.

Bought the iPad for 3 main reasons.....

1. Amazing screen to show off my photos...really useful when you're out on a trip and want to see what you've taken as well...

2. Moving map GPS with official CAA charts for flying that creates a google earth track of your flight.

3. Remote control lighting and sound control (for my job...)

Also really handy in lectures to have past notes on....and helps pass time during a 6 hour train journey Smiley

Was a sceptic when the iPad was released....now in love!

I currently have an Android smartphone, and I considered the iPad 2 when I was looking at Tablets,
but I decided on the Toshiba Thrive 10" for a couple of reasons...

1) Has both a full size USB port (flash drives, mouse, keyboard, etc.), a full size SD card slot (expansion), Mini USB and full size HDMI ports as well. I have a 32Gb SDHC card installed right now, the Tablet has 16Gb so I have 48Gb of space... enough for movies and music.

2) It's got a removable, user replaceable battery... big plus.

Good battery life (9 hrs.+), but it has a mini brick AC Adapter which is surprising. I can deal with it though.

I use it for work, and definitely for FS; with Aviation oriented apps (logbook, map/Wx/AFD/SIDS & STARS), it's the ideal size for the desk right next to my monitor. Turn on LiveATC for a little ambiance, put up a Sectional, and I'm all set for a flight!

Wink

Word on the street is iPad 3 is being unveiled sometime next month. I do want one but no point in getting a 2 (other than a price decrease im sure) when i can get the latest and greatest 3 (once all the bugs are worked out like the last 2). I use a i4 cell too.

Stick with your Blackberry, some new software was released and some more things soon to be released. 'Droid app is now available on BB. RIM Headquarters are in my area and they employ over 10,000 local people and that many worldwide again. The spin offs from RIM are countless, from construction to software devs. RIM has donated to our universities in countless ways including the Quantum Institute which has the pleasure of having Stephen Hawking on board. RIM has been unfairly bashed by outsider investors of whom get their info from outside the community. Who was the first smartphone provider? RIM. Apple jumped on board at a later date and targeted teens. BB was made for bussiness and developed the security that so many countries around the world despise. One could say that a few Dictators fell due to the security BB offered. Now the new CEO of RIM is pushed into dumbing down the BB so it will appeal to a crowd that it never really intended to compete with from day one.

Any company that thinks it knows what you should be downloading is a company I want to avoid.

What you have is a nice piece of kit but what annoys me is that some people just think blinkered and don't realise there is a world of tablets out there -- & the free world (which apple doesn't believe in)

I avoid apple like I avoid overlords.

Android all the way.  I know someone close with an ipad & can find nothing on there that I can't get for my brilliant samsung note & I can get a lot more .. & better resolution. & Android allows ME to vet the software (yes I delete lots -- but heck ... much better that way) . I don't need my Mummy (apple) to decide what I should be able to download.

Think Global. It's the world we live in.

Hmm, well I'm aware of the Blackberry Playbook running 'Droid apps, but I'd heard nothing about the mobile devices.

However, there are a lot of stability issues and the such which have lasted for years. BB Push is a good service, but the lack of apps and lack of general features and things in general just annoy me.

I honestly don't know a single person who hasn't or doesn't want to get rid of their Blackberry... For people my age, the only feature we use is Blackberry Messenger, and copy-cat systems are coming out for all the other major brands.
