Hi All,

I purchased an SSD to put my FS9 install on, since I have a huge install (250 sceneries and approx 120 aircraft)  Is there a good way to move all this stuff over without having to reinstall everything?  Not a big deal if it isnt possible, because if I have to start from scratch, i will install UT which I have been putting off, unlike Fozzer!

Hi Sean,

I'm assuming that you either have your FS installation backed up on an external drive or the new SSD will be in addition to your current drive. You can do what I do if I need to restore my FS, which is backed up on an external drive:

Do a fresh FS install from the original disks into a new folder on your new SSD. Then I delete all the visible folders and files in the new installation. Then just highlight, click and drag all the backed up folders and files to the new location. Reboot and fly. My understanding is that the hidden folders and files rewrite themselves when you start FS.

I've been doing it this way since I first moved FS out of C:\Program Files to its own stand-alone folder or when I screw up something.

I just reinstalled Windows XP after 5 years.  My "state of the art" computer then is now a midrange computer.  I still use FS2002 (I just like it better) so this may not work for FS9.

I considered doing the program reinstall, delete, copy but I figured, what the heck, why not just try copying everything from a backup? [Note, when you reinstall Windows back up everything as many times as you can.  I have 2 Acronis images and 2 copies of every file.]

I did not reinstall the program.  I copied the folder from my backup.  Everything works fine, even FSNavigator.

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.
