I've always been bothered by the usually crude attempt to place the part of the cockpit corresponding to the views (right oblique, right side, right rear oblique, rear, etc.).  Where are these textures located and how can I get rid of them. They add nothing to my FS enjoyment.

thanks for any suggestions!

If I understand your question, you mean "camera".  If so, they are in the aircraft.cfg, and are the [CameraDefinitions.X] entries.  Just edit the aircraft.cfg by deleting those entries and saving the changes.

HI! Thanks for the response! I'm not referring to the cam views but the part of the cockpit (look left and you see the window pillar or instruments at the left arm of the pilot) the pilot would see if he looked left.  Looking left and forward (7 on the keypad for me) the pilot is looking at an angle of 45deg from dead ahead; looking right (6 on the number pad) the copilot's seat; right and forward (9 on the number pad) part of the panel on the copilot's side; etc.  Most of the aircraft in FS9 didn't have any pix of the cockpit interior but it seems all of the FSX aircraft do.  I've found one so far that doesn't.  On base to an airport, I like look out and see where the runway is, for example.  It's not the virtual cockpit textures.  I hope this clarifies the question a bit.

Thanks, again!

I didn't think that FSX supports fixed view windows in 2D Cockpit View mode. Can you give an example of one of the aircraft you're talking about. If you tell me the file name or include a link to the page it's posted on I can download it to check it out.

I suspect they were aircraft without a VC.

In FS9, where there is a VC parts of that show in the 2D panel as views but they are modelled parts.

The side view BMP's in FS9 are a part of the 2D panel and this is something FS.X does not support

If it's the *2d* views, you should be able to open the "panel" folder find the .bmps for those views and simply delete or rename them.

Great idea! I should've included pix. OK, after investigating further, I've found that some aircraft have the "fixed window" listed in the panel.cfg and the relevant texture included (forward_right, etc.).  But, on many of them there are no references in the panel.cfg and no textures in the panel folder but they still have textures for all the views (forward left, left, rear left, rear, etc.).  Where are they hiding?

I can't post images until I've posted 5 normal messages but, in the meantime, here's an example of a panel.cfg with fixed windows (ERJ170) and the relevant textures are present in the panel folder.

[Window Titles]
Window00=Main Panel
Window01=TCAS
Window02=GPS
Window03=THROTTLE
Window04=OVERHEAD
Fixed Window30=FORWARD_LEFT
Fixed Window31=LEFT
Fixed Window32=REAR_LEFT
Fixed Window33=FORWARD_RIGHT
Fixed Window34=RIGHT
Fixed Window35=REAR_RIGHT

[VIEWS]
VIEW_FORWARD_WINDOWS=0,520,GPS_PANEL,THROTTLE_PANEL,OVERHEAD_PANEL

VIEW_FORWARD_RIGHT_WINDOWS=33

VIEW_RIGHT_WINDOWS=34

VIEW_REAR_RIGHT_WINDOWS=35

VIEW_REAR_LEFT_WINDOWS=32

VIEW_LEFT_WINDOWS=31

VIEW_FORWARD_LEFT_WINDOWS=30
In my current FS activity of circumnavigation in VFR and GA aircraft, doing central Asia right now, I land at uncontrolled grass/gravel/packed snow airport and like to have an uncluttered right/left forward view to see the runway for turn to final.  With these often crude attempts at realism, I don't have that view.

thanks, again, for your responses!  Will post some images after I've done 5 normal ones.

Backup the panel.cfg to your documents or somewhere then edit the one in the panel folder removing the Fixed Window lines.

Then test it in fsx & if something isn't right overwrite the edited one with the backed up one.

I think you'll find those fixed views are used on 2D panels for earlier versions of FS.  They're intended for aircraft without a VC. As I said earlier, I don't think they work in FSX. I still suspect that what you're seeing is views of the VC. If you give just one example of an aircraft you're talking about we can check it out.

This is the forward right view of the FSX default 737-800 from 2D Cockpit View. What you can see is the VC.

This is my post from above backing up what Hagar is saying.

There are no 2D BMP views in FS.X, the reason why the FS.X versions of my models do not have them but the FS.9 do.

In FS.9 portovers the views might still be in the folder but of course will be ignored.
