Wow, I don't think I've played on Flight Simulator properly in ages and ages. I haven't taken a screenshot in donkey's years either. So here's one... A landing at Yellowknife, NWT.

If your landing in Yellowknife then shouldn't you be flying a buffalo DC3?

RUddddderrrrr!! as my flight instructor would say.
I was flying the default dc3 recently, i noticed its very hard to handle in weather, especially in the air and with wind, i found myself on approach with a 15-20kt wind and needed almost full opposite aileron to keep it level.

I hear that is the way the real one handles. That big vertical stab and of course its a tail dragger. Perfect recipe for nasty cross wind characteristics!

I Have learned that ww2 aircraft could flare until the rear wheels were almost touching the ground.(Thanks Red tails) so you can do a really, REALLY REALLY soft anding even in the toughest of weather.

I do a mixture of Kai Tak and Lukla approaches everywhere Grin.(And By Lukla I mean landing on runway 24 Grin.) It NEVER ends well and there's no way it ever will. Grin But that's reallly when I want to give the passengers the last Ride of their lives Smiley

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Not just WWII aircraft. It's called a three-point landing.* That's the beauty of a taildragger. You might like to check out my photos from the link in my sig sometime.

*Not normally used on larger taildraggers like the DC-3.

i figured the horizontal stabilizer contributed , i read a book about a pilot that described the C46 being the same way saying the tail was like a Billboard.

Stealing from the competition, maybe?  Wink Grin

Thanks, everyone. It's not too bad to land in still weather, but low visibility and a lot of wind makes it rather bumpy here. I had flown for about 50 miles hands-on (trim was very useful though) before landing it. I think I prefer autopilot and sitting down with a cup of tea  Grin
