With the news reporting that it was a bit of a free for all for the lifeboats on the Costa Concordia and the captain "fell" into one and could not get out again. How well history fits in with modern incidents, you could think that a greater power has already prepared things well in advance.......... Grin Grin

Matt

From "The Wit and Wisdom of Winston Churchill" by James C. Humes:

"Late in his life, Sir Winston took a cruise on an Italian ship. A journalist from a New York newspaper approached the former prime minister to ask him why he chose to travel on an Italian line when the Queen Elizabeth under the British flag was available. Churchill gave the question his consideration and then gravely replied.
'There are three things I like about Italian ships. First, their cuisine, which is unsurpassed. Second, their service, which is quite superb. And then - in time of emergency - there is none of this nonsense about women and children first.' Grin

Through various buy-outs, isn't White Star Line now Costa Cruises? Oops!

I'm not surprised that the captain left before the 'men' did though  Roll Eyes

Has anyone noticed how the captain has modeled himself on a number of Italian footballers, or as I like to call them, people who cover their heads in olive oil till Jamie Oliver wants to throw them into a salad Grin Grin Grin

"Passengers are to be aware of the emergency signals: 7 longs blasts on the ship's whistle, or the captain sailing past on a lifeboat..." Grin
