No, carbon fiber has another trick, delamination and then losing all structural integrity, at least with a crack, you can see it (most of the time Grin

) Also when you hit Aluminium it is good enough to dent for you, thus seeing the damage. Carbon fiber you see a very small impact point, but can have huge damage under the skin that has radiated out into an area much larger then the impact point. Now add minimum wage baggage handlers and ground staff to a carbon fiber jet Huh

Which is why a particular person I know is telling all he can to stay away from the 787! Boeing is ignoring a lot of problems with the wing.

I will be intersted to see the repair after a baggage or catering truck hits the skin. A question of when and not if. Last year at one point the company I work for had five AOG's throughout Europe due to this. Roll Eyes

Metal aircraft, usually a quick-ish fix. No such thing as a quick fix with carbon fiber Sad
