Good Afternoon All… Smiley

Dropped into the aviation museum this morning to see how the Lockheed Hudson and the Avro Anson were doing.
Sorry…no camera…

Walking through the displays I noticed a civilian Cessna 150 surrounded by a Handley Page Halifax, Spitfire, Hurricane, Auster, and Chipmunk amongst just a few static displays.

Cessna 150

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_150

The thrifty 150 were produced from 1958 to 1977 and prior to 1964 they had a square fin, manual flaps (40 degrees) and no rear window.

This thrifty 150 is set up for school tours and all the electrics are on.

Over the years we purchased and sold many different aircraft and many graced our Flying Farmers Hangar floor long after the last cow was milked and sold.

The thrifty 150 was just like the Tiger Moth, Stearman, Navion and many other aircraft when I climbed in and strapped on.

She would turn into a Sopwith Camel, SE5A, Spitfire, Hurricane or P51 when dad, grandpa and my older brothers were not around to box my ears... Grin

I had a very hard time leaving this little Cessna.

Funny how I do not remember how much cargo room was in the back or how low the wing is.
The cockpit I remember but do not think two (2) of me would fit in there now.

Perhaps I shall get up to the bug smasher field and take a ride in one, there are a few there.
Should also check the Simviation forums and download one.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Good afternoon all... Smiley

Interesting Links for comparison:

Cessna 172

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_172

Cessna 150

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cessna_150

Cessna 172                            Cessna 150
-from 1956 still in production   -1958 to 1977
-160 HP                                  -100 HP
-cruise 122 knots                     -107 knots
-range 696 NM                         -366 NM

All figures are approximate depending on load and fuel...

The C172 is an easy step up from the C150... Smiley

I've tried to postulate on what is the most iconic aircraft of all time, and I keep coming back to the 172.  What would you say Doug, is the 172 or 150/152 more 'iconic'.

To me, the 172 has always defined what an airplane is, instantly recognizable by anyone and everyone as an airplane, and probably the first image that comes to people's minds when you say 'small plane'

Well now that does pose an interesting question.

I think that depends on several things.
(1)  what country they live in
(2)  the age group you are referring to
(3)  the degree of knowledge the person has about aviation

Take me for example:
(1)  A Canadian and used to seeing American Aircraft
(2)  Well past seven decades so I would have to say until
the Cessna 150 & 172 had been around for seven years
at least the Tiger Moth was the aircraft most seen
      around here
Now the last three decades I would say flat out the
      Cessna 172 in this country
(3)  With only six decades in the saddle and three log books,
having bought and sold a dozen aircraft or more I still
think the Cessna 172 when talking to folks who are not
licenced aviators do visualize the image of a Cessna
172 as to what a small aircraft should look like.

Probably because there are so many around and still in production.

Let me tell you a little story also.

It was just after I retired from the airlines and we had several aircraft of our own at that point.  I never lost money buying and selling aircraft.

Our son invited his friend and family to an outdoor BBQ one saturday afternoon and along came the friends grandparents as they were visiting.

The grandparents farmed along the Bay of Quinte for eighty years or more.

That area was saturated with BCATP (British Commonwealth Air Training Program) Airfields during World War Two.  Aviators from all over the world were trained here.

Well Harvards, Tiger Moths, Ansons and many other yellow and black training aircraft filled the sky during those war years.

Showing them around our home, the barn and hangar were a must stop.
We had an ERCO Ercoupe painted silver and black in the hangar and the first comment from the grandparents was....
"gosh it looks small and it looked much better in yellow and black"

So there you go...that is my little story...hope you can make some sense of it... Grin

Reminiscing is by definition "back".

It reminded me of those television commercials (depending on where you live) for "Education for the Future".  Well, duh.  Isn't all education "for the future"?  I'd pay for education for the past - to undo every stupid thing I ever did.  But it would be too expensive.

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

Hi Jim... Smiley
Thanks for the comment... Smiley

It kind of reminds me of when folks say:

"If I knew then what I know now, things would be different"...but would they have had as much fun... Grin

The little Rheims Cessna 150 Aerobat...

My all-time favourite aircraft!... Kiss...!

Its the second aircraft I flew (P2) more recently, after I flew the military Auster Aiglet Spotter Aircraft, many years ago, in the British Army.

My little Flight Sim Cessna 150 clocks up more daily flying hours than any other aircraft in my Hangar for the past 14 years!

Its my little baby...Miss reliable!

...

...she's even got my own registration markings!

Paul...have 150...will travel!... Cool...!

With my small stature: 5' 7"...and 154 Lbs...she has a good turn of speed, with her Continental engine, (to beat a C172!).

Awesome shot Paul...wonderful... Smiley

Now that is FS2004 correct?

Thinking about downloading a Cessna 150 for FSX to use.

Also tried to find a Cessna 172 Freeware on Floats for FSX but they all seem to be Payware.

Lots of excellent Cessna 150/152's in FS 2002 and FS 2004 Doug...

All my shots are using FS 2004....big choice of everything!

Paul... Cool...!

The nice thing about FS 2004 is that most of the "objects" are backwardly compatible....and...FREE!

Hi Paul... Smiley

I have always had a problem with downloading an aircraft from FS2004 that is supposed to work in FSX.

Most times something does not work so I gave that idea up.

The way I understand it, FSX and anything prior to that will not work in the new MS Flight.

Guess we shall have to wait and see.

Will have to do a search to see if there is a C150 that will work in FSX.

Doug...

Whenever I want something for the Flight Sims, I just type into the Google Search Engine, for example:

FS2004. Cessna 150.    ....(or whatever!)

..or...

FSX. Cessna 150.   .....(or whatever!)

It saves me from searching through dozens of individual Flight Sim Sites.

Generally, lots of choices pop-up... Cheesy...!

The wonders of Google Search!

Paul...FS 2004...and lots of Google'd Stuff!... Grin...!

If you want addons for Flight you will have to pay for them via the Windows Live website.

I don't know of a freeware C150 but have you tried the free Just Flight C152 here? --> http://www.justflight.com/microsoftc152.asp
