Hello Everyone,

I have a small fleet of retardant planes (aka fire bombers) and want to re-config the retardant drop effect.  Most of my planes the retardant drop is triggered by the rotating beacon switch.  I dont care for this because everytime I forget this config and turn on the lights I make a mess on the tarmac.  I have captain Sims C-130, they configure it to be in used when the engine smoke is on, so everytime i go to full throttle, the plane drops a load......no good.

I would like to alter the aircraft.cfg to release the retardant when I press a button on my joysitck and map it to a feature I dont currently use (Wing Fold, water rudder, etc..)  Anyone know how, or if its possible?

Animations like water rudder and wing fold are built into the model and there is no way for the end-user to modify them.

If the drop effect is triggered by the beacon you should be able to change it to another unused light such as wing light or logo light. You would then need to add a switch to the cockpit, easy to do with the 2D, not so much with the VC (most of the time).

You should also be able to change the effect to the smoke system.

Can you post the [lights] section of the aircraft.cfg?

Thanks for the reply.  The current retardant drop is configured on the smoke system.  I would like to change it because when the throttles are full, it triggers the smoke system on and a retardant drop is made.  If I could configure it to a light, I could map that light on the control page to a button on my joystick.  Here is the aircraft.cfg for the Captain Sim C-130 (Minus the Camera Definitions due to over max characters)

Not owning this plane all I can do is guess.

I suspect the effect is controlled by gauges and built in to the model.

The smoke system effects appear to be placed at the engines, I assume the retardant drops from the bottom of the fuselage.

As this is payware I suggest you contact the developer.

Maybe someone else has a better answer.

Have you tried changing the assignment in your:

SETTINGS, Controls, BUTTONS / KEYS, Systems;

Smoke system (on/off)

Delete the key and joystick assignments and then add New Assignment. If you program a button on your joystick you might have to adjust the repeat slider.

In the smoke system I can assign the retardant effect (big_drop.fx) and it will drop retardant from the bottom of the plane when I press the 'I' on my keyboard.  Problem is at full throttle the plane has a built in engine smoke effect and it triggers the retardant.

The full throttle smoke effect is probably triggered by a gauge.

If you can identify that gauge in the panel.cfg you could try disabling the gauge. You would lose the smoke effect and possibly some other functionality.

If the drop effect is more important and you can live without the smoke effect that might be an option.
