Having a pristine copy of the Simulator to hand always helps when problems occur.
I treat all my FS Flight Simulator CD's like gold dust, and keep them in perfect condition, ready for re-installations!

Its now getting more difficult to locate old versions of the Sim, so it pays to look after your existing copies.!

(FSX is still available. FS 2004 is getting more difficult to find a new copy).

It always pays to have a good back-up copy of your favourite Flight Sim.

I would try cleaning the CDs first. You could also try installing from a different CD-ROM drive if you have one.

Those CAB files are large files which take a lot of resources to extract. I always disable anti-virus software & other automatic background applications before attempting to install any version of MSFS.
