Goodly afternoon all... Smiley

Been awhile since I posted a flight so here are a few shots on ice and snow.

FSX and Windows 7
FS Water Configurator
Aircraft:   DeHavilland DH80 Puss Moth on skis
Freeware by Milton Shupe and Team
Location:  Antarctica...
               McMurdo Station
   Departure:  NZWD Williams Field
                     Snow Runway
Arrival:        NZPG  Pegasus Blue Ice Runway
                      FSX Southernmost Airport Reward... Smiley

The McMurdo Station at Antarctica is located 1850 nm south of New Zealand. The station has 3 ice and 2 snow runways registered under 3 airports. The station has no navigational aids so all approaches are visual. Operations on the ice and snow runways are difficult due to the reduced braking ability and because the runways are difficult to locate from the air.

The following runways are available at the station:

NZWD

Williams Field

72 ft elevation

07/25

Snow

10.000 ft

15/33

Snow

10.000 ft

NZIR

Sea ice runway

1 ft elevation

11/29

Ice

10.000 ft

16/34

Ice

10.000 ft

NZPG

Pegasus blue ice runway

18 ft elevation

15/33

Ice

10.000 ft

In FSX you'll earn the "Southernmost Airport" reward for landing at NZPG:

I was trying to show the difference between Ice and Snow Runways in FSX without Payware.
Not sure if I accomplished that or not... Grin

Check out the Simviation Download Site...lots of great stuff there... Wink

This aircraft has no brakes while on skis... Smiley

NZWD Williams Field...snow runway and tail coming up...
...

Now on Full Skis during takeoff run...
...

NZPG's ice runway and aircraft is on Full Skis
...

Tail dropping down during landing on ice runway at NZPG...
...

Ice was slightly covered with snow and I had to much rudder input...
...

Practice makes perfect so time to do it again... Wink

Comments and advice most welcome... Wink

Watch out for 'white-out'!! Wasnt McMurdo sound where that DC-10 flew into the ground? I recall reading a book about it, and it contained photos the passengers had taken at what they think was the moment of impact, with fuel on the windows. Bizarre...

Nice shots though  Wink
