If your drive was filled due to oodles and oodles of add-ons, what you could have done if you had, or have, an external hard drive, is to create a "Storage hanger" and trimmed down your sim object folder and store those aircraft that you downloaded and only flew once, on the external drive (Just keep the default aircraft and your absolute favorites in FSX).

Hell, even if I'm not short on space,I like to do that from time to time anyway just to remind FSX who's boss!

Every now and again I have to get a new Hard Drive, and start all over again....
I accumulate so much "stuff" in my Hard drive that trying to un-install/delete some of it makes very little difference to the remaining space!
Bite the bullet, and start again, with a new slate!...

I have a few suggestions.
1. restart you computer
2. completely clear out your recycling bin.
3. go through and delete any non liked or never used things, both FS and non-FS
4. get a flash drive/empty disk and transfer all the aircraft that you don't use often
5. (not sure how well this will work) Go through and compress pretty much every folder that isn't a program folder by zipping it. (the reason to not zip anything like ones with .exe's and all is because it could mess it up or make it so it can't find any required resources.)
6. restart your computer once done
Hope it helps!
