Wellington to Sydney. Where Shall I visit in the U.S? (Read 542 times)

Hey everyone hopefully your not all bored of my world tour by now this is after all the 11th leg! Anyway here are some shots of my arrival and departure at Wellington,New Zealand and my arrival in Sydney.

I was warned about landing in Wellington because of the strong winds earning in the name Windy Wellington. I had a 12knot crosswind all the way to touch down which wasn't really that bad so I'll think my self lucky.
On a side note I've noticed all of my Papi lights in Australia and New Zealand don't work they just show white no matter where you are, I was spot on the ILS here.
...

Once on the ground I thought I should give the 'bug a check up considering she's done 12,500nm (27hours) since the start of this trip and the next leg will take me over the open Pacific!
...

A quick shot taken from the tower just after take off.
...

I decided to push my lucky and fly flat out under Sydney Harbor Bridge, it turns out there's probably enough space to fly a 747 under there, it's huge!
...

I think this is a pretty cool final, I've never seen an airport where the final is over the hangers and terminal buildings before.
...

For the next leg I'm heading to Fiji then out over the Pacific where I will rendezvous with the USS Nimitz to refuel before heading on to Hawaii.
I've decided once I'm in the U.S I will try visit as many of your local airports as possible so if anyone wants me to visit an airport near them leave me a comment with the airport code and I'll go visit it.

Thanks for looking  Smiley

Nice shots! Lets see, if you can, my local  airport is KRFD, which is near chicago, a little northwest. I've always wanted to do an around the world trip, and I think you may have inspired me. Cheesy

Thanks for the comment Rockford international is now on my list  Smiley

You should try a round the world trip it's good fun especially if you use a aircraft with less than 1500nm max range!

You were landing on 16L by the look of it in that screen at Sydney. From what I know aircraft are very rarely authorised for landings on that particular runway due to the close proximity to hangars. 16R is used instead for landings most of the time in those conditions allowing 16L to handle solely take offs.

I may be wrong though as I'm a Melbournian so Sydney INTL is not my usual airport.

Ye it was 16L, I imagined that would be the case to be honest.

Nice shots again  Smiley Were the PAPI lights all white in the cockpit too?  I notice they're off when in spot view compared to cockpit. A lot of times I'll be on the glide slope in the cockpit but when I go to get a pic it shows me high or low.

Rockford has an awesome Airshow btw Wink first time I saw the Raptor was there and it wasn't even at the Chicago air and water show that year.

Yeah the PAPI lights and White no matter if your in the VC or not or what aircraft your in. I first noticed it from the VC of the Default 747 when I was flying to Sydney from the U.K.
It's strange because last night I landed in Fiji and the PAPI is fine there, so I'm guesing it's just something wrong with the Australian and New Zealand Airports.
No biggie though I can land fine without them.

Are there any good airports in Arizona I should visit, I'll be crossing there anyway because my route so far is.

San Fransico KSFO - LAX - Las Vegas KLAS - Dallas KDFW - Rockford KRFD then on to Nassau in the Bahamas before heading south to Caracas Venezuela.

So anymore stop suggestions would be great!

Hey! I live about a mile from KRFD. Smiley  Also, (if memory services me right), isn't there a DC-3 on the front lawn of C77?

Great shots btw.

I live in Rockton, and I haven't been to C77 for a while, and I don't remember seeing a DC-3 there

Nice shots!  What's the usual for Windy Wellington winds?

By the way, why don't you think about dropping by somewhere in Atlanta Georgia?
