Good afternoon all...
Just a few shots...
DeHavilland of Canada DHC-2 Beaver
The Silver Dart Replica is a visiting display until 2013.
The Viscount Airliner Simulator is awesome.
Many many displays from:
Defence and Research Development Canada (DRDC)
like "G-suit" Invention
This politicians want to turn this museum into a four pad hockey rink to go with the sports complex which is also there in one of the old RCAF hangars.

DeHavilland of Canada still uses the south part of the airfield.
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Very interesting Doug. Does this mean you've finally got yourself a camera?

That's sad.

Whenever I see a DH Beaver, like the one above, it always reminds me of the film; "7 Days and 7 Nights"....
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120828/
The film in which Harrison Ford was so impressed with the DH Beaver that it encouraged him to collect and fly his own aircraft...(including a Beaver?).

Thanks Mark...Oh how I wish I had of had that square footage...
The old hangar has lots of memories for me...many just pictures...
-she housed:
-DeHavilland Mosquitos
-DeHavilland Vampires
-DeHavilland Otters
-DeHavilland Tiger Moths
-Canadair Sabre jets
-CF 100s
-North American P51s
and many many more...
There were two huge hangars attached and on one side alone you could have twelve Otters or more with offices upstairs also for the Wing.
Now they have lost the battle to the politicians and land developers...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Hi Doug...
No these are pictures one of our grandchildren took while up there with the Air Cadets.
We still do not own a camera much to the old girls annoyance, (she can buy one if she wants) I am just not a picture taker and I am not particularly fond of having my picture taken.
I know exactly what I look like as I see myself in the mirror every morning...
It took a good day to go through if you wanted to have a go at one of the several real with motion flight training simulators, actual size and front half of the aircraft (cockpit).
They had so many displays that many were still in storage and they could not put the wings on the Lancaster as it was too large.
One has to remember this is where many aircraft were built during the war years and to date. The Royal Canadian Air Force Station was only part of the aerodrome.
Lots went on here that most politicians do not know about or care.
There was a huge tunnel that ran for miles and miles (the northern boundary of Toronto to the Lake) with rooms off it. This was all underground and the aircraft could be towed to the ships underground and out of site from the public to be shipped overseas.
In the 1980s or 1990s they were going to turn the tunnel into underground dwellings for the homeless (I think).
Not sure what happened to that brainstorming idea...
Not even sure what they have done to the tunnel now, I know what I would like to do with it, but the politicians would not like that...
The museum is now closed and Royal Canadian Air Force History will again disappear...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

It's quite a shame to lose this Heritage building to a Hockey rink. Here's some things I heard in a radio interview.
1. The building itself had a heritage status which mysteriously disappeared when the city decided to put a rink in that spot. Of course a building with a heritage status can not be demolished.
2. There is 600 acres of land next to the buildings where a rink could be built but they want to use the existing foundation for the new rink to save a few bucks. Digging new foundations would have been about equal to the demolition costs they will be paying for.
3. The city, in all its wisdom, did offer the museum a temporary storage building but the curator says no aircraft would fit through the doors and if they could fit, the ceiling height is to low.
4. The museum could have remained open longer to help generate some extra cash to help them through the dilema but the city ordered them to remain closed to the public.
5. Thousands upon thousands of volunteer hours are up in smoke. Many of these craft were restored by unpaid volunteers.
Yes, it's a shame.
Flying with twins is a lot of fun..

Good morning all...
Sure would like to know where all these displays are going?
Hopefully not in some old wooden barn about to collapse.
We have a great museum down here and would hope perhaps someone would have talked to them about their displays...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
