Good afternoon all... Smiley

We spent this morning at the Cenotaph along with many many others.

Tonight we will attend our Royal Canadian Legion Remembrance Day Dinner as we do each year.

I hope you all took the time on this eleventh day, eleventh month and at the eleventh hour to remember for a few minutes those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for you and I, to those who are now still standing guard over our freedoms and rights and to those who have been there, done that and we all seem to forget to thank.

http://www.greatwar.co.uk/poems/john-mccrae-in-flanders-fields.htm

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Major John McCrae

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

We owe all to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and to those who, every hour of every day, serve to protect us.

I had to work this morning so I stopped at the Cambridge Cenotaph and took the poppy off my shirt and laid it at the base of the Cenotaph in honour of my father. I hope I didn't break any tradition as he was US Army 101st Airbourne and not of Canadian descent. I'm sure no one would mind, he was a veteran no matter what country he enlisted with.

Thank you for posting this
it is one of my favorite poems..
My connection is through immediate family to the RNZAF.. although back home we celebrate ANZAC Day in April each year, its a time to honour my friends serving in Canadian Forces that I completed my Masters in Leadership at Royal Roads with..and their committment to a life of service of others..

I've been remembering old friends who didn't make it. Been wearing my poppy with pride.

Thanks to all who sacrificed their time as well as to those who sacrificed their lives.  If there were an emoticon that could salute I'd use it here.  Instead...
Smiley for appreciation for those who served
Cry for lives lost
Wink for shared emotion
Grin to remind us of what THEY fight to keep for us

Oh, and Trucker...You have excellent literary taste.
