The Avro 730 was designed to replace the U.K's Vulcan bomber as the primary nuclear bomber however in 1957 the project was scrapped.

It truly would have been an awesome site to see!

Thanks for looking!  Wink

Fantastic shot.........quite a strange looking aircraft indeed Cool Cool

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

It would have been lovely to see one but I'm kind of glad they didn't replace the Vulcan, she still holds a VERY special place in my heart.... and what is left of my hearing after being buzzed by one maxed out at less than 200ft straight over my head Cool

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

I agree the Vulcan is a far prettier aircraft and a British icon.  Sadly I've only ever seen them parked up at airshows.

consider yourself lucky:
the only aircraft i will see are heli's,tubes,an ocasional cessna or atr or if i am lucky:a private jet.(actualy, there are wuite alot recently, someone kept flying around in a a319 elite and a few weeks ago a learjet passed over.)

It's the same here really. I live 2 miles from an international airport so we just get the typical airliners flying over.
Every so often if you're lucky you can see a couple of C130s (normally Saudi Arabian, no idea why...) parked up at the cargo terminal  or a C-17 but that's rare.
The most exciting thing I seen is an Apache chopper flying over I've only ever seen that twice though.  Scary B*****d to because it's virtually silent until it's right on top of you, then it's the loudest thing you'll ever hear! Not ideal when you're having a nice beer in your garden on a Sunday afternoon!

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
