Qantas CEO Alan Joyce has called for the immediate grounding of its entire fleet of 108 domestic and international aircraft following ongoing disputes with employees and unions. Around 70,000 passengers will be affected worldwide with the Qantas group estimated to lose $20 million a day.
Effective on Monday will be a complete lockout of employees who are involved in the industrial action currently being negotiated with the Qantas Board and unions: Australian Licenced Engineers Union (ALAEA), Transport Workers Union (TWU) and the Australian and International Pilots Union (AIPA). These employees will not be paid until an agreement has been negotiated.
Jetstar, QantasLink and Jetconnect will remain unaffected during this grounding.
