10/25/2011 - OK- its High time some get called out on the Carpet about this, its Long overdue ~ !!!  As a Flight Simmer for over 10 Years, who not only flys, but also paints aircraft and has PayWare & Freeware Aircraft in his "FSX" Gold edition Acceleration Sim,,,, I'm getting really tired of downloading some of you Designers / Creators Aircraft that you clearly have Mis-Represented in the Title of your Descriptions, more than once, I've seen an Aircraft I'd like to have, througly read the Title and Description to see it states its for "FSX",  only to find out after the download - it won't even properly Display the Textures on the Aircraft - - Because the Texture Files are in the Wrong type of File format, - Because the creator / designer did "NOT" - "NOT" - "NOT"  properly "Save" them in the right style of Format to properly work with "FSX" ~ !!! I want to be perfectly Clear to those who don't understand the Difference or just don't get it - - YOU can "NOT"  make "BITMAP" Texture files work properly in  "FSX" is NOT how FSX was designed to work ,,,, "FSX" Texture files should be in the proper file format, that being "DSS" File format - Again BITMAP file formats Will "NOT" work properly, in "FSX" especially in the Aircrafts Texture folder,,, Why your doing this I haven't a clue, but I'm very tired of it and I'm quite sure other simmers are to,, after spending hours downloading aircraft, only to see a Blank Model staring them in the face in their simulator !!  Why, your NOT testing them out properly for the Sim YOU claim their for is outright irresponsible and outright Lazyiness & Carelessness on your part, not to mention Rude & Arrogrant - there is NO Excuse in it what so ever - NO Excuse for this type of Half-Assed Assumptions & guess work on your part !!  Whats even worse is how Frustrating it is for the person on the other end recieving the download, that YOU Stated in your Title was for a particular Sim, when in fact it clearly is NOT ! There seems to be some type of Contest going on between you designers & aircraft Creators, to see who can get the most downloads for the aircraft / scenery whatever, to try to outdo one another- so you Arrograntly put ther words FSX in the titles rather its truly for FSX or not, just so you can get more hits on your aircraft / scenery, and I find that dispicable and Arrogrant and definetly most definetly makes you look like a Real Ass and NOT at all Credible for your creations - and I for one have had enough of this after about 10 downloads from this site !!   One Designer / Creator in particular that I just got thru downloading 3 or 4 of his Aircraft is "MARK ROOKS" who seems to Claim his Aircraft are for FSX in his titles and descriptions - Yet you tear into / open up his files / folders and look at the file structure, the Texture files for the Aircraft are still in BITMAP format and leave his aircraft with BLANK textures in your Simulator,,,, Why ??? Because he did NOT save his files in the right texture format "DSS", and must have NOT pre tested his aircraft in FSX, or he would of found out they don't show up,,,, but he didn't and went right ahead and uploaded them to this site !!!  I tried to EMail the Bozo from the information he left in his - READ ME file within the aircraft download file, and of course his EMail is no longer any good- because it came back to me as - mailer dameon undeliverable, I mean, even his EMail address is no good, not to mention his aircraft don't even work !!  Guys, ya either do it right - or  DON'T do it at all ~ !! Enough is Enough of this type of shanigans and BS !  If you don't know what your doing and haven't a clue , than just refrain - Quit from trying to upload bogus - corrupt files to any & all flight sim web sites period !!  YOU should clearly & plainly state exactly what your aircraft / scenery is for which simulator it should be very clear either FS9/Century of Flight - - or -- FSX,,, NOT either or, maybe, but, or if you do this & that and spin around 20 times touch your toes it might maybe work - STOP - just STOP , Your the designer / creator thatsa your job NOT ours,,, you threw it out there - than you make it right , you supposedly designed & created it than YOU make it so it'll work PROPERLY , its NOT and should not be up to another person to finish or tweak your work because you were either Lazy or don't know what your doing, that being the case - YOU have NO Business uploading anything to any web site for somebody else to get their hands on to use some how or another when your junk is corrupt !!!!   I'm going to from now on start calling out those responsible for this, both on here and on MY YOU TUBE Channel which I have 13.5 million viewers - so I'll be giving you plenty of publicity and showing everybody your junky aircraft and WHY it won't work as well,,, the WHY is what I want others to see,, because YOU don't do things right,,,, Why is it others do and YOU DON'T ????  Either get with the program and do this stuf right design it right prepare it right or get on out of here and find some other toys to go play with - but we serious flight simmers don't want you around - leave go away quit playing games !!  Enough is Enough - and I hope Simivation will start keeping a close better eye on the uploads thats coming into their site - as of right now theres several need to be removed permantly !!  Also, Simivation needs to have some kind of rating system for their downloads and a comment box below the downloads so others will know if its a good download or a badd download !!!   Watch out pilots not all these titles on these aircraft are what you think they are - they are very Mis-leading - so watch yourself !!!!  Angry Angry Angry Angry Undecided Undecided

Well maybe if you provided links to the planes giving problems maybe we'd be able to help. And Which youtube channel is that? A link would also be helpful. Tongue

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Wish I knew what all this is about. If you took the trouble to punctuate your diatribe properly perhaps I would be able to make some sense out of it.

You have to appreciate that every file posted on Simviation is free & costs you absolutely nothing. If  it doesn't work as advertised or you don't like it for any reason whatsoever you can simply remove it.

Hmmm, I have many FS9 models in my FSX, that have BMP texture files, and they work fine for me. Sure you are gonna get the occasional prop blur issue, or dark vc....

Look, not every model/file will work for everyone due to varying systems, but the guys that put them up mostly do so with good intentions. Nobody is purposely putting up bogus files, especially here at SimV. Some slip through the cracks.... but that can and will happen anywhere.

You have 5 posts here, and you come up with this rant. Why not ask us first about any problems you may have. There is a great collective of knowledge on these forums, and most everything eventually gets sorted out.

following  jetprop's help  :see if you have SP1 and SP2 because as far I can tell FSX was also made for FS9 models with its older MDL format , it was SP1 who fix an issue that used to shown black FS9 airplanes compilations in FSX game,it was SP1 who fix this . today 90% of the available models are in this old and good format

Jetranger,

Careful, that kind of threatening posting is the easy way to get banned from a forum.

Are you sure that you're installing the downloads properly? Or maybe it's something to do with your video card. I have an ATI Radeon and with that, FSX Acceleration works perfectly well with .bmp as well as .dds files. I have planes such as the iFDG A319 - which I think dates back to FS2002 - loaded into FSX that display the textures normally; and these are the bog-standard DXT3 .bmp files too.

Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

You should probably just learn how to do all of that modeling stuff yourself and eliminate the middleman.

When you get to the point where you actually get a model into the game that is perfect re-visit your thread here and see how you feel then.

I agree with the other members.  All my FS9/FSX compatible aircrafts work fine.  Like it was mentioned before, are you running Direct X-10?

The only problem I have is that the sound sets on a lot of my add on planes don't work properly.  I get this phasey/swooosh sound.  But I think it's system related because not everyone are experiencing this.  I went out and purchased Audio Environment and replaced the sound packs.

I imported all the aircraft from my FS9 into my FSX and they all show up perfect. As a matter of fact I find that some 3rd party FSX planes have not worked well in FSX, but there counterparts in the FS9 section work better. I download from both sections and usally have no problems with FS9 aircraft and (even some 2004 senery). And like most everyone saids, it's free and if it don't work for you just delete it.

Jetranger it seems your are one of those that doesn't watch what he does, makes mistakes then blames everyone else

BMP files work fine in FS.X......you are doing something wrong

Perhaps you could check what you are doing wrong and then let us know in your post where you apologise for insulting a community that works hard at expense to the individual just so that ungrateful people can have something to moan about.

Now...get off your high horse, open your eyes and take a look at what YOU are doing.

All i want to say Is: CALM DOWN MAN, you will never get what you want if you are so angry to everybody. Its your fault. you have to look if its for fs9 or fsx and you have to be carefull with files. if you start messing around that your fault it isn't working. Don't blame the modelers of beautiful aircraft. and one tip: If you're coming to the Netherlands dan't speak like that because you will be knocked out. we don't like that. I think the whole forum doesn't like that. Sorry fore this long preach but i hate people when they blame others for everything!!!!!!

Something the irate Jetranger should also know is that if he is as prolific a re-painter that he claims to be, he should be able to convert the .bmp's to the .DDS (Not ."DSS") format himself.

I very seldom post on Simviation as I am not expert enough to offer advise to most members but I do log on several times a week to see what new aircraft are available to download and to learn from those who can and do offer their advise freely.

VERY few aircraft have any problems, most are exceptionally well made and often better than payware.

I for one am eternally grateful to those talented individuals who post their creations on Simviation and was appalled to read the diatribe from Jet ranger.

Then I reread his post and realised he is, as he says, only 10 years old and colours in planes for a hobby.
At least I think that's what he said. Wink as I rather lost the will to live before the end of his rant Cheesy

Well, from what I read it seems like this is another "install the DVD FSX ONLY and HOPE that every plane works properly even though the planes were tested in SP2/Acceleration, therefore with most of the bugs associated with the default fsx instalation corrected" guy...

Well, all I know is that I got a bit behind on this thread and I'm not going to bother reading all the posts, and due to the nature of about 99.9%-100% of his posts, I'm not even going to finish the one he posted that started this thread.

But all I know is that I'm personally offended by some of his posts.
Also that you can use extended bitmap textures in FSX and FSX Acceleration, especially due to the fact that all 10 of my FSX paints are ALL bmp and got on the site.  And due to simviation's tester(s), they won't get on the site if they don't work right.  And I have had personal expierience with them not getting through the tester(s) in my beginning stages so I know that for a FACT.
And also, that you have some MAJOR grammatical issues.
That you seem to be one who just flat out insults and pesters people who give their works for FREE to you and about 99% of the time have installation instructions in a readme of some sort, instead of nicely asking questions.
That you have posted atleast ONE thing that gives COMPLETELY faulty instructions.
That I have not seen even ONE post of yours that DOESN'T insult designers.
And also I get the feeling are probably one or more of the following;
1. mentally insane
2. heartless
3. brainless
4. clueless
5. have to big an ego for your own good
6. know nothing at all about flight simulator
7. have no CLUE what the purpose for simviation is
8. have no creative talent of your own.

If I went too far, please PM me or delete my post. Tongue

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

WHAT twaddle!!

I enjoy research/fixing the odd errors found in some of the freeware. Using the error checker in FSX.config is better than any crossword. The variety of disciplines needed to create any meaningful package is extensive. Try the "face" in the GMax tutorial !!. My main interest is gauges and the Xml syntax, Fs9 to FSX can cause a furrowed brow!!.

In short, some models do have problems but I am sure the MAJORITY of contributors do their best.
Considering the MANY HOURS spent creating the FREEWARE, note, FREEWARE, the odd errors can be expected and forgiven.

Well, if you like fixing so much would you mind fixing a mistake I made with my F-15SX!?  Grin
I forgot to change the clean variant model folder name to model.clean, it doesn't show up in the FS list... I renamed it model_clean when I was testing out some stuff and I didn't want those models to appear. Because it is a beta version I pretty much released it as it was, but I forgot that one detail!  Cheesy

I have uploaded 3 aircraft upgrades (thats what i call them anyway) to simviation. They were two mike stone twins 337 and a 404 that i added full working G1000 panels to. I also took and older beechcraft duke twin and added a combination G1000 and analog panel that could be switched during flight to help those who learning about the Garmin's but able to revert back to analog in case they get into issues or click the wrong button. After reading your rant( My apologies) you post. I would be very happy if Simviation would remove anything i have uploaded. I am no professional panel or painter maker. I understand a lot about the .cfg files and continue to learn. But after reading this your post you have my word i will never ever upload anything to this site again.

Of what small amount of things i have done adapting the stock G1000 panels in many airplanes i did get a thank you from a person at simviation. i will post it here as i say goodby to simviation. I also hope you can weed out all us horrible people who are upsetting you so much.

"Hi John,

Thanks for the G1000 updates!

Over the months I have had 2 specific enquiries about the G1000 (which means there must be quite an interest in that because very few would ever actually enquire to me about it). One guy bought a payware version but was really disappointed that not all functions worked even in that.

Are you intending to update the version for the C172 in FSX?

It would be a really great addition to have it fixed up as much as possible so functions worked as they should!! I am not sure how much can be done to it ..........

Meanwhile a BIG thank you for what you have already done. Great!

Pete Daly

Hey!  Don't leave!  Uploads are always accepted!  And it wasn't your fault, he had DXT10 turned on, which makes them not appear right.  They never would have got on the site if they wern't good!  And besides, last time I checked, pete was a administrator, so they must be really good if you got a thank you from him, especially since it came ith a request!

I agree with club. Also I would suggest that if another person posts something like this that admin take it down immediately and ban the person. Just my thoughts because I don't want to lose any fellow designers either.
