Awesome!! The first shot is my favorite. If this isn't a missile then it's a needle mounted on a jet engine

AMAZING! The lighting and reflections are all simply amazing! And not to mention the wonderful horizon!
And if you want to see a REAL manned missile, look up the japanese "Boca".

I don't know about anywhere else but in Canada they called the Starfighter the "Widowmaker" due to frequent engine fails and several crashes.
Great pic. Thanx for the link.

Awesome shots Rob
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

I recall getting given a 1:144444444444th scale model kit of these as a kid. As i was only small, you can imagine the mess of glue, sprue and sticky fingers everywhere. However, unpainted as it was, it was still recognisable as a F-104 when 'finished'. A family member came along and said 'ah...the widowmaker' so thats what ive always known these as
.
The RAF didnt have them but the Luftwaffe did, and i presume they lost a 'few'....

Yup, I too have heard the "Widow Maker" moniker. That, along with several other if it's nicknames. The thing that I love is the haunting, yet awesome sound the engine makes! If you dont know what I am talking about... youtube it!

My goodness
. Great shots man

Off topic:
The Germans made great planes bf-109, 110 e.t.c but they also made planes that made the kamikaze look sane
Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Nice shots. They remind me of the F-104 display team I saw at Mildenhall in the 1970s. Very fast & very noisy!

More than a few. According to Wikipedia:
"In Luftwaffe service, 292 of 916 Starfighters crashed, claiming the lives of 115 pilots ..... "

Yes, the spooky yet soothing sounds of the J79 engines. Smokey as hell though!
