Hello!

No spooky stories for All Hallow's Eve, but I do remember the "good old days" when:

-- we used to go out in groups of 20 or 25 kids and roam the neighborhood free; no parents, wherever we wanted to go.
-- we actually came home early to drop off the first chock full bag of goodies before heading out again!
-- folks in the neighborhood turned their whole houses into haunted houses, and we went in without a care in the world.
-- after canvassing our neighborhood, the parents would drive us to another one and we'd start all over again!

Of course, in this day and age the Frankenstein get-up and accompanying festivities would offend some parent out there, resulting in a visit from local law enforcement...  Sad

Ahhh, the good old days...

Have a Happy and Festive All Hallow's Eve!

Alan  Cheesy

I was the local law enforcement. Roll Eyes

Grin...Thanks Alan and I think Larry "Patchz" will be watching us all on Halloween Night... Grin

I bet some of you lot used to:
-soap the school house windows
-leave pumkins with candles burning in them down
the center of the street
-pushed over those wonderful two holers
-even moved those two holers back two feet
-stuck a dead fish in the teachers desk
-took some of your younger brothers or sisters
candies when they went to bed so as they would
not get tooth cavities...

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Doug,

It was more like:

Jack O Lantern Rugby (take the pumpkin off the porch and launch it into the street!)

One reason we traveled in groups was to discourage the "Bag Snatchers" from descending upon us unawares... they dressed in all black with a Lone Ranger mask and hid in the alleys looking for unsuspecting trick or treaters.

Candy? Shoot, I remember some Halloweens when the candy lasted until after New Year's!  Tongue

Doug, I would venture a guess that 75% of the members don't even know what two holers are, unless they saw one in a movie.  Grin

Thanks to Doug I know what a two-holer is. Wink

Although the tradition apparently originated on this side of the Pond, Hallowe'en was never celebrated like it is in North America. We had Hallowe'en parties when my daughter was young but "trick or treaters" were unknown at the time. They are not popular in most parts of the UK as the older kids use it as an excuse to cause mayhem. These yobboes wouldn't be satisfied with a few sweeties & hard cash is what they're after or watch out! I think it's called demanding money with menaces. The shops are now full of Hallowe'en costumes & suchlike, in fact a whole new industry. I always blamed it on that cute little ET.

That behavior reeks of extortion, or a case of aggressive pandhandling! If they came to my door acting like that, they would end up with a little "motivational counseling"... courtesy of a 30kW cattle prod! This is where I would welcome Patchz' participation!  Angry

Hey, where are all your spooky stories folks?

Maybe you all should take a trip to Salem Massachusetts or City of Witches... Grin       Lips Sealed
