Question about SimConnect (Read 1148 times)

Hello everyone,
About a week ago I decided to do a clean install of FSX and all my add on's (FEX, GEX, UTX) on a seperate drive.

Before I re-installed everything I had to delete the previous installs first. So I went to the Control Panel and clicked on the "uninstall program" section. I began un-installing FSX and my add ons from the list.

Basically I was un-installing anything FSX and FSX related. Now here's where I'm a little worried. If I remember correctly, I think I also un-installed something called SimConnect from the list of programs. For some reason I thought it came from FSX or one of my many add ons.

Now, I've finished re-installing FSX and my scenery stuff but haven't installed my airplane add ons yet.
When I went to the "uninstall a program" section in Windows, I don't see SimConnect listed there. Now I"m very worried because I'm starting to think it came with my Windows and not FSX.
So far FSX is running fine, but I'm worried that I may run into problems.

Can anyone tell me if the SimConnect program was installed by FSX? Or did it come with Windows? How can I tell if it is in my PC?

Any help greatly appreciated

I think SimConnect comes with the FSX Software Development Kit (SDK) and also with certain addons like REX. If you reinstalled everything to do with FSX and simconnect isn't installed then I wouldn't worry about it. It does not come with windows.

I think it's for running programs like active sky and real environment xtreme on a networked computer which controls the weather in FSX running on your machine. And I think you can get it here:

"Step 3: Installing SimConnect client on CLIENT(s)

There is a simconnect.msi installation file located in the SDK installation folder\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\lib."

But if it didn't install by itself and you don't know much about it, then don't bother.

I do know for a fact, that if you have, or want to have PLAN-G (moving map) on a seperate computer and it be able to read where you are on your FSX computer, as well as your friends or other AI. You MUST have the SimConnect.xml on your FLIGHT SIM computer to send the info to your PLAN-G computer.

I have already written several, of these for this very purpose.

I don't plan to have moving map on a seperate PC so I think I'm good.

Also, thanks for the link. I'll keep it in mind incase I decide to try it one day.
