As the title, I've replaced 3 of my old drives with a 2TB single one, trouble is one of the drives I've removed (and subsequently re-formatted) contained my old FSX install, trouble is, my OS (Win7 x64) is still under the impression FSX is still installed but can't un-install it. If I try to re-install, again, it assumes FSX is already installed.

Help!

Yes, next time, I will un-install before I remove the drive that has the program in question on it! Shocked

Thanks.  Smiley

it is your system registry that is holding you up.

WIN 7 64-- START > (in the search bar type "REGEDIT") >
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microsoft/Microsoft Games/Flight Simulator/10.0

DELETE
ONLY
THE 10.0 FOLDER FROM THE REGISTRY!!!!

restart your computer, and then try to reinstall FSX.

Rather than muck around in the registry (what about the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key capt. prop?) why don't you try to repair your FSX install instead of re-installing it?

cheers,
Joe

FSX will only write its registry file to HKEY_CURRENT_USER.   I have had to uninstall FS9, as well as X combined a total of 30 times so I know EXACTLY where it is.  Also I had to phone Micro$oft once or twice about the "2 computer" rule.

I didn't add those keys, so Capt. Computer Expert, if FS didn't add them who did?

In 6+ years I have yet to screw up my FS install so bad that I had to do a re-install, so ya got me there. Tongue

cheers,
Joe

Problem with registry due to sloppy uninstaller is (usually) easily dealt with the use of CCleaner, automatically and without having to muck around with manual registry editors. It's a freeware and quite the useful tool to keep a computer in tip top shape, pruning the wild tree the registry can sometimes become. Wink
