Good idea or playing on peoples fear of over heating. I ask because when gaming, FSX or COD, mine blows out hot air that could roast a chicken for Sunday lunch.

If the laptop is operating correctly then I wouldn't bother.

As said, coolers are probably not required if the laptop is operating okay. You could try downloading something like SpeedFan and it will tell you the temperatures of various elements of your computer. Post those, and I'm sure someone can let you know if it is safe or not.

Purely raising the laptop off the ground by a centimetre or so can vastly improve cooling. Many laptop coolers do this anyway. Propping it on the edge of a shallow book or somthing would do the same thing. Personally I open a window and switch on my room fan if my computer gets too hot; it helps to cool the air in the room and circulate it, which in turn lowers the operating temperature.

You could do a lot worse than get a laptop desk stand. We use them at work and they're excellent. Only problem is you'll need to get a USB keyboard to type with...

Thanks for the input. My lappy is only two weeks old and has been hot from day one. I have no reason to believe that it is doing anything that it should not. I just happened to read an article in a computer magazine, 10 ways to keep you lappy happy. The most important point (so they thought) was to keep it cool......
