The storm cut off power: no commercial lighting, the water pumps stopped -- no line water, the stoves don't work. This is what happens when I meet up with my own type of humor... or rhetoric... whatever you wish to call it.
"When did you last eat?" I ask.
"Don't know," he says, "don't have a watch. I suppose neither of us has eaten since the last time."
Now, 'wait a moment!' I'm thinking... and I punch his shoulder.
"Hey!" he responds, not offering a return punch.
Since he's just staring at me, I bang the back of my hand on the nearby doorpost... just in case I imagined feeling the contact I made with my punch!
"What do you mean," I ask, "telling me I haven't eaten since the last time? I'm still alive -- what do you mean, 'the last time'?"

From a local news broadcast:
Flood Witness: "I believe my neighbors took the evacuation. I saw them leave."
Announcer: "You're not afraid of flooding in your home?"
Flood Witness: "Well, I'm hoping not."
Announcer: "Are you high?"
