I made a highlight reel of last week's U.S. Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach. Not sure if any of you guys are surfers or like watching surfing. Probably one of the best competitions of the year this year though, very action packed. Lots of good waves on this video too.

Let me know what you think...on the forum or video.  Wink

Good stuff there man! I used to go watch the US Open every year. Nice to see some of the old names in there, Machado, Slater, Taj... some pretty progressive surfing going on. I like the way Slater surfs, but hes a jerk in person. Machado on the other hand... coolest, most down to earth guy out there! My shaper lives in Encinitas literally 2 houses from Machado, and my sisters bf went to high school with Machado.... so yea, I've met him on many occasions! I even have one of his boards!

Pretty decent surf conditions. Huntington pier always has fun surf. Entered a few contests there myself! I remember one US Open several years ago where the surf was too big, and they couldnt get out!

My specs... A hard drive, motherboard, graphics card, some memory, a keyboard, mouse, and monitor - in other words, nothing special.

Yeah I'm not surprised that Slater is a jerk in person. I listened to Machado a few times on the stream when he would be there, he seems really chill and cool. Would've been great to see Andy Irons here...he'll be missed for sure...but some of the young guns really showed off there talent like my favorites (John John Florence and Lakey Peterson) also Kolohe Andino and Conner Coffin were ripping it up out there. Same with the brazilians, Filipe took jr pro.

The competition started out with smaller waves, didn't see much aerial moves but then as the weekend got there the waves got huge! On friday they brought out the jetski's to help the guys. I was down in Huntington this year right around the time of NSSA Championships but had Jr. Olympic hockey tournament so no luck with being able to watch the competition ... Undecided

Good to know we have a surf fan on the forums though  Smiley

Not just a fan bro...been surfing since I was about 8!

Pretty cool you were down for hockey tournaments. Where did you play?  Do you ever play the San Diego Jr. Gulls? I used to play for them in high school.

Awh nice. I've been thinking if I pick a college by the beach next year that im defiantly gunna start surfing more. The only surf close to me is San Fransisco so its REALLY cold.  Grin But I do bodyboard alot. Easier too  Grin but not as many tricks. I've only been surfing in Hawaii.

But the tournament was only for inline hockey. It was like Jr. Ducks rink I believe. Lot's of teams and international teams too...I play ice in San Jose, which is an hour from me but don't play travel ice because of the $$$ and my golf career... Grin but still managed to play inline travel. Pretty fun actually, just alot of people say go play real hockey. Although I play ice and inline, inline is more of playing the game of hockey, there's alot of ice teams I play that dont even play the SPORT hockey they play go hit as many people as I can regardless of clean or dirty and score no goals  Grin...scary games  Shocked

Cool clip.  When I lived in Hawaii I would always go to the North Shore at Sunset Beach to watch the tourney there.  The waves there freaking HUGE, these guys must have had bronze balls to swim out there.  The waves looked big enough from the beach but then once a surfer caught the wave you saw how big the wave really was as the surfer would look like a little speck on the wall of water  Shocked

I know what you mean 'truck. I'm not new to surfing by any means. But there has been several times out... Mostly at Blacks Beach in La Jolla where I feared for my life! No joke. Theres also been times where I said, "Oh heck no Im not going out in that!"

tcco, I know what you mean about playing ice. But when I played, it was well organized and well officiated so it never got out of hand. And I remember one tourney we played up there at the rink San Jose State plays in. We won that tourney! Was a fun flight home! haha

Usually we can get some tough refs and some refs that wont call anything. The rinks in San Jose are nice, but never played down in So Cal ice rinks but I know the San Jose and Tri Valley travel teams travel to L.A. alot so they must have good ice.  Smiley

BTW- Billabong Pro Teahupoo is next week. Looking really beautiful there. I'll try to get another video up of that comp. if they have downloadable videos.

Here are some of the guys participating-- http://www.billabongpro.com/tahiti11/surfers-gb/

Yep, I'm going to try to make it to Mavericks this year in Half Moon Bay, I'll just be sure to keep a safe distance and bring a zoom lense after what happened last year  Grin

If you wanna see some big waves, the Billabong Pro Tahiti this week should be really good. Saw the free surf today and the surfers were saying some of the best waves out there in 3 years. Some pretty nice barels, lots of them actually. Start's tomorrow... and goes till next Sunday I believe if you guys ever have a chance you should check it out. They say they have a storm coming in this week, which is why all the surfers are getting stoked.  Wink
