I want to be able to change colours or details on fuselage and wing surfaces. How does one open the *.bgl files in the texture folder, in order to make changes? Some planes are easy, you just change and fly, but some files are restricted. How do you open those ones? I am referring to FS2004 (FS9)  planes.

You'll need a program called DXTbmp. Just google it. It's availble from a number of sources. It's free, and really, really handy for repaints in any version of MSFS.

Get the latest version of DXTBmp from the man who developed it. http://www.btinternet.com/~mnwright/programs/dxtbmp.htm
