I fly both Military jets (VRS FA 18E) and general aviation in FSX. The Jet sim is using dual throttles and the GA planes only have one throttle. The throttle axis are different for both forms of flying and this is controlled by having different profiles for the controlls in my Warthog  HOTAS. When I saved two different configurations in FSX Settings I found that the information for the control axis was never saved and the last axis assignments were saved for both files I made. How do I save two different control settups for different types of flying?

Don't know what windows your running, but you want to go to: Documents and settings/your name/Application Data/Microsoft/FSX and youll find a folder that says Controls, open that and there's a file titled Standard.XML. You can copy that one, and than make a new set up for the other plane and swap them back and forth, I don't think you can rename the file thoe, to have like Standard #1.XML and Standard #2.XML, but you can try.

OH! and welcome to the V!

Hi Fryman,

Just write a simple batch file for renaming/copying the xml file for each setup that you need, you could then run the batch file that uses the  xml file you want then calls the fsx.exe for you.

You would have to run fsx for each setup you use. Check controls are as you want them.
exit fsx.
Copy standard.xml to something like mil_standard.xml.
Run fsx again, do same for GA and exit.
Save standard.xml to ga_standard.xml.

In each case, anytime you make any tweaks, remember to copy the standard.xml file.

Batch file would could be called:
mil.bat or ga.bat

mil would copy mil_standard.xml to standard.xml and similar for the GA.

Personally I hadn't noticed the standard.xml for controls, I can have a practice on mine and let you know the results.

regards

Steve

Hi Fryman,

Do you know how to create the batch files?

I'll check back here in a few hours, if you don't I'll type the instructions here for you to do file swap for you, you can then start fsx as normal.

The xml file in win 7 will be in users/yourusername/roaming/microsoft/fsx/controls.
If you have aicarriers installed, goto the exe.xml location and you'll find controls from there.

Steve

I have not done bat files for some time and your offer is appreciated. I do have Aicarriers 2 installed.
Thanks in advance for the code.

After you have created the xml files use the following but remember that if you make any major changes in game, it would be best to quit and copy the standard.xml

Run your fsx with 'military' settings, exit fsx and copy standard.xml to mil.xml
Run your fsx with  'ga' settings, exit fsx and copy standard.xml to ga.xml

Open the fsx/controls folder where the xml files are:
Right click and select new text document.
The first line is only a suggestion in case you forgot to copy the standard.xml on a previous flight after you changed loads of stuff.

Enter the following 2 lines:
Copy standard.xml standard.bac
Copy mil.xml standard.xml

After having entered the above 2 lines: save the file, give it name of mil , notepad should add the .txt for you.
Exit notepad.
You should see file name of mil.txt.
Right click the file and rename as mil.bat.
It's icon should have changed.

Enter the following 2 lines:

Right click the file and rename as ga.bat.
It's icon should have changed.

Now this means that for the moment you will have to goto the controls folder each time you wnat to change the standard.xml.
You don't have to: create a shortcut on your desktop to the above .bat files.
Run the bat file then run fsx.

let me know how you get on with it.
I can see no reason for it not to work.
I often have to do temp fixes at work like this.
