Hey guys,
My new computer should be here tomorrow (
) and I've been out of the game for so long, and I never really used FSX in the first place (my last computer couldn't run it well enough), so I wanted to know if there was a list of the best addons (aircraft, scenery, enhancements, etc) for FSX. Preferably free, the bank account needs a breather after the computer purchase.
I didn't see anything in the FAQ, I hope I didn't overlook an obvious best of list somewhere. Maybe it's time to start a post with a list? If we do it has to be TOP notch, not just good, but seriously the best!
Thanks for the inputs!

Hopefully
Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

I like you have been away for a long time due to not having the right rig to run the sim, but now I do and FSX is just great!
Most FS9 aircraft are compatible, so there's a lot here to choose from.
I however find Plan G (Flight Planner is a must have), fantastic program to run along with FSX or FS9 and although there are multitudes of great sceneries out there, I'm really enjoying flying FSX Vietnam War Project, it is great. Please do read my post regarding this Scenery.
Welcome and enjoy!

Dino's stuff is some of the best,
here
is his site.
This
is a nice update to the Grumman Goose.
Rollus's Mirage 2000-5 is a very nice add-on, but I believe it is not currently available on any web site. If you are interested I have the original files that I might be able to e-mail you.
The Section 8 F-86 is good, you can get that
here
.

I've always been fond of the AFG King Air 300 (
http://www.flyingscool.com/files/FSX/AFGB300FSX.zip
).
It's an FS9 aircraft ported over to FSX. It's quite a bit better than the default, and seems to fly like a real king air. Comes with a cabin, and has pressurization systems. Only issue I've had with it is a glitchy engine start switch, but its not too hard to work around that.
Oh, and try to look up FS Water Configurator. A must-have unless you plan to purchase REX (a payware texture/weather package). You almost need it to get the most out of our water.
Look up some HD clouds from various freeware sites (avsim.com or flightsim.com). You have to pick and choose a bit, but higher-res cloud textures can really change your flying experience.
The IRIS P-40 warhawk is another cool freebie plane, and it used to be payware too.
What else... oh, and check out
http://aussiex.org/
, some nice freeware there too.
Cheers,
RB

Almost forgot! Any and all by "Piglet" a.k.a. Tim (Tom?) Conrad!!! They are truly payware quality freeware!
Can't recall all that I have due to my 'big' computer is still in the hospital, but a few that I really like (love actually!) are his PC-6, AN-2, AN-32, A-1E, OV-10, T-6.......there's a few others that are also very very nice. Piglet has a lot of talent.
I especially like the AN-32; one of the interior views is riding in the back of the cargo bay (with the doors open you can do some great sightseeing). The -32's interior is better detailed and overall better looking than the Capt. Sim C-130 IMHO.
Try 'em! I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Someone also mentioned AlRot.......get his Citations, they are flippin' AWESOME!!!!!

I don't recall Iris posting a V-22. Perhaps you meant their F-22.

A great addition that will dramatically change your FSX environment is the ENB series addon. It's a mod that creates high dynamic range lighting (HDR) and bloom effects in FSX. It looks stunning much more realistic then the cartoonish appearence of default FSX and there is almost no performance penalty.

Give it a try:
