NASA Budget Bill Would Cancel Webb Telescope

Quote:
WASHINGTON — The House appropriations panel that oversees NASA unveiled a 2012 spending bill July 6 that would pull the plug on the budget-busting James Webb Space Telescope as part of a broader $1.6 billion cut that would roll back spending on the nation’s civil space program to pre-2008 levels.

Making the 21 year old Hubble Telescope the most sophisticated civilian laboratory in orbit.

The department of defense spends more in a week than the entire proposed "busted" budget of JWST.

Correction:

The Chandra X-Ray Observatory (1999) and Spitzer Space Telescope (2003) may be more sophisticated.

What We Could Lose if the James Webb Telescope Is Killed

Quote:
NASA's James Webb telescope, the successor to the Hubble, is on the chopping block. With the U.S. Congress arguing over fiscal matters, one of the things that may get cut is NASA's budget, with the expensive James Webb telescope potentially getting the ax. If that happens, a generation of scientific discoveries about the nature of the universe may need to be put on hold ...

Once it's in place, though, the Webb is quite literally expected to unlock a universe of discoveries. Positioned so far from the Earth and shielded from outside infrared interference, the telescope will be able to see things the Hubble never could. Chief among them: seeing back in time. Since light only travels so fast, the further you look out, the further you look back. The Webb is expected to be able to peer into some of the universe's earliest moments, before even stars existed. This could give insight into how the cosmos came into being ...

I'm very aware what we are loosing by the lack of interest in cosmology (I don't think budget is a good excuse, but I don't want to get in politics) Its about what we are and where is our place in th universe.
Hubble telescope has achieved the brightest images and a new comprehension of what we used to think how was the universe ,but 2.40Mts is not enough , and BTW for me its the biggest and smaller telescope of all the world ,I don't believe the  interferometry telescopes (ESO - Paranal Telescopes in Chile) with all the propaganda ,the truth is far away to achieve images like the 2,40 Mts of the space telescope(far from it)
we are looking planets of the solar systems getting images like the voyager, pioneer and Galileo probes took ,but instantly and cheaper by the Hubble
the best images of one of the biggest event was the shoemaker levy impact on jupiter ,we learn a lot about it and was Hubble who took the images (the best ones) among many other things black holes in the center of the milky way ,etc

we have send some other probes one not design to land on and asteroid actually did
swift probe is studding something that a decade a go we didn't even knew about it like Gamma Burst in stars and how threading  could be to us(Just to talk about putting expensive things on space IT WORTH IT!! Angry

we needed a biggest telescope to dig deeper and to get a better comprehension of the universe , for example most of the element of earth were made in a super nova events even our carbon, iron molecules exist before the earth existence

WE NEED A BIGGER MIRROR WITH A LARGER SPECTRUM OF ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION CAPTURE DEVICE OF DEEP SPACE  BACKGROUND ..  ,

P:S. when I said we ,I mean the humanity needs it ,only The United States(and Japan but they really have a bigger problem right now) can do it, some other countries like mine still thinks that the universe is their neighborhood and the earth is flat ,that the space is for nerds ,and crazy people

Cool ahh man! there isn't enough brain to understand how big the universe is and how many surprises has hidden

I don't think in dark energy&matter, there is a work of and astrophysicist PHD friend of mine that recently has been publish that maybe after 50 mega parsecs the gravity work different some kind of anti gravity effect, those are ideas and Webb telescope could help to prove it or not (this is longer but it could explain the strange expansion of the universe it self ..It make more sense to me more than the non barionic ghost energy and matter

DON'T CANCEL IT PLEASE, JUST PUT IT AT LEAST ON STAND BY  Kiss
