Been simming since FS5 but am just getting started in design. Can anyone direct me to how I would create custom navaids? VOR, VOR/DME, TACAN, etc, and airport layout/design. I've installed SDK, but can't seem to figure out it's interface. Does it have a stand-alone UI? How do I incorporate what I've designed into the FSworld? I've Googled everything and there doesn't seem to be much on the executive architecture of the software, just the nuts and bolts of actually writing the code.

Though there are a few user tools available in the SDK, scenery and airport design are not among them. It is primarily the definitions and exploits that software designers use to create 3rd party design software for FSX. It is these 3rd party design programs that we rely on.
There is no central UI. There is a 'core' document worth perusing, file name 'fsxsdk.chm' located in the ....\Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\ folder.
The tool of choice for airport design is the freeware Airport Design Editor (ADE). It comes with a very detailed help document.
Read about and download ADE here-

There are many SimV members that use ADE, so help is available here.
ADE also has a dedicated support forum here-
