Goodly morning all... Wink

As I sit here sipping on my second cup of percolated coffee made from the coffee beans the old girl buys at the A&P Store and grinds to her selection, something got nagging at me... Smiley

One of our teenage grandson's asked me why I was waiting to purchase a new computer and a motion unit that it sits on.

He told me on the weekend I was a procrastinator (Someone who postpones work especially out of laziness or habitual carelessness).
Me a procrastinator?  Humbug...I bet he can't even spell the word.   Tongue

He has his Glider Pilot Licence and is working on his Private Licence through the Air Cadet Program.  He still has several years before he can be a licenced driver of a motor vehicle... Grin

Loves computers and computer games...well don't all teenagers.  He uses FSX at home but his parents, one being our son are both very very strict with their children and the childrens times are very much regulated between studies, sports, organizations (Scouts, Air Cadets...etc...family and personal time.

I remind our children sometimes that our grandchildren are not in the military and they need to be kids, will leave it at that... Lips Sealed
Don't worry folks grandfather seems to stick his nose in with all his children when it comes to our grandchildren...the old girl is worse than I am... Grin

Well this young buck asked me several good questions on the weekend about why I did not buy payware along with getting the new computer system.

My answer was I was waiting to see what comes about with this new Microsoft Flight which I think will be in the stores for Christmas 2011.
Flight should be much more realistic and I want everything designed to work with that program just like this electronic gizmo was designed only for FSX and Vista.

I can not see spending money on something now which may not work with the program I want six months from now.

Well, our grandson thought for a moment and then responded.

Gramps he said, when FS98, FS2000, FS2002, FS2004 came out you said they were only games and you used them for practicing your IFR work and procedures.

Now you have FSX and it has turned into a hobby for you as well a learning tool and grandma say's you spend a lot of time communicating on the computer with a lot of other old geezers who have nothing better to do with their time... Roll Eyes

So much for Simviation and you lot... Grin

Well I explained as one gets older and can not do the sports activities they used to do, maybe the old girl and I will not renew our aviation medicals, after all it will be close to eight decades we are slowly closing in on and not even sure how long we shall keep our driving licenses so we both need something to fill in the time.

So yes, the electronic gizmo and FSX have become a hobby of sorts.

The folks I communicate with on the electronic gizmo are very knowledgeable folks from all walks of life who have banned together because of their love of aviation, real or simulated.
The forum is called Simviation they belong too and some of them are actual real aviators.

I shall ask your father if he will let you have some time to look at the forum, I tried to get him involved but he is just too busy aviating.

Perhaps in the fall of the year gramps was his reply, got to go to Air Cadet Camp again this year...it is going to be a great summer again... Smiley

Well I got my amunition stored for the little beggar now when I see him again...

The last two days I was having trouble getting a scenery download to work and two members of Simviation answered my post and low and behold I have more Freeware Scenery that works great.

So Payware I do not need right now for FSX as long as we have wonderful folks out there contributing to this fabulous hobby, game or learning tool.

Simviation is a medium, well regulated and respected.  The membership is much like the gang of Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers who gather around the Bull Shit Table on the weekend at the local bugsmasher field to dissect aviation in all it's forms.
Giving and receiving freely information and assistance regarding simulated aviation or the real thing is what it is all about folks, and it can be found right here at Simviation making this electronic gizmo and forum a wonderful Hobby, Game and Learning Tool... Wink

Have a Great Day... Wink

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Thanks Larry...one never knows what will come out of some of their mouths...I think kids today are growing up too fast.

When I was about his age we all swam in the river during the summer, swung out over the water from a rope and an old tire, sat on tire tubes to go down the rapids just north of where they live now and played pranks on our older brothers and sisters... Grin

I guess some of our grandchildren still do that... Grin     Smiley

Our parents never gave us too many chores, a few but not many until we became teenagers... Smiley

Teenager?

And just out of curiosity, Flying Trucker, I have nothing better to do than FS and repainting, does that make me an old geezer too? 'Cause I just turned twelve exactly one month before the date of this post.

Geezer, whippersnapper, and still wet behind the ears are old sayings, older than I am even.

Geezer = (according to Wikipedia) Geezer is a term for a man. It can carry either the connotation of age and eccentricity or, in the UK, that of self-education such as craftiness or stylishness.

Whippersnapper =  (also from Wikipedia) A term used to describe a young, impertinent person.

Still wet behind the ears = The allusion is to the inexperience of a baby, so recently born as to be still wet.

Semi-old, is relevant, or based on opinion of the speaker. I'm 62 and I consider that semi-old, where 50 would be middle aged, and 80 would be old.

But some 80 year olds in exceptional health and fitness don't consider themselves old. It's like the term, 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder', a matter of individual opinion.

Doug and I are old enough to be very familiar with these sayings and find it easy to use them in jest, which is all this was.  Grin

Ah! Thanks for helping clear that up!

And by the way, what kind of geezer would a twelve year old be?  Barely-old?  Still-wet-behind-the-ears-old?  Whipper-snapper-old?

And an interesting thing for you to know Flying Trucker...  Another definition of Humbug is a mint flavored candy!

Why am I concerned that either your acedemic best was not in math... or that you're self-insulting?
For you, as a human, 7½ in dog years would be just over one year old... dare I ask if you've advanced beyond the crawling and diaper stage?
A 52-year-old human would be ~ 367-years-old, give or take a few, in dog years.

I was using the older method given me of a dog's year equaling an average of 7 human years ([10½ + 4]/2 = 7¼; as the relative age progresses, the factor would actually decrease, which the converter you refer to figures in; however, any conversion is an extrapolation since lifespans aren't individually the same nor universally constant, regardless of species).
My attempt at humor, however, did overlook that U4EA had already done the math for dog years in the range of @ 40 to 370 solar years, depending upon the definition and his specific conversion factor(s).

I don't know what H just said, but I do know one thing that I think might make it a bit difficult for you all Undecided.  You see, the problom is, dog years are not a constant, the length of the dog year changes as the dog gets older, with many more changes than the link hagar posted says. And due to that, not only might it make it difficult, it may well make it impossible, especially with all the millions of dogs and puppies in the world. Undecided

So we do the easy approximation route of the, however inaccurate, seven year itch and flee. Actually, you seem to basically undertand what I said.

I am looking at my mangy mud loving dog right now. She don't look too stressed out to me! Let's see, what's on "Patches" to do list for tomorrow. Wake up your human two hours before his alarm clock goes off because you thought might have to pee. Sniff everything for an hour and come back in the house and give that "sorry boss, false alarm." look.  Grab something to eat and wash it down with some fresh water, curl up on a pillow and doze off all day untill the human gets home 10 hrs later. Act really happy for 3 minutes and then doze off and sleep untill 3:30AM.  Roll Eyes
Just give me a few dog years and I'll be happy.   Cool

I was always understanding dog years "equating" to human years at a 1 to 7 ratio. Huh

If my math is correct, which is highly questionable, then 7 1/2 dog years would be 52 1/2 human years..........aw crap.......that'd really make me like 7.125 dog years.......I think.......even though I shouldn't do that either........if I listen to my wife.

Methinks you are s'posed to listen to the wife. Cheesy

Just out of curiosity, what on Earth are dog years based on?!?!?!?

The average lifespans?
The average running speeds?
The average height or weight increase rate?

reply to H: And H, I still don't know what a solar year is or how you did your math, but if I understood it at age twelve thats good enough for me!!!

Our solar year is approximately 365¼ days -- the time your twelve plus years is based on (our calendar's leap year is inserted to reconcile the @ ¼ day) -- according to the Earth's complete revolution around the Sun. It varies accordingly per planet; if Mercurians should exist, their solar year would be about 88 days, relative to Mercury's orbital completion (thus, you'd now be @ 50 years old according to a Murcurian solar calendar).

Goodly afternoon all... Smiley

The old girl and I just got home from the large mall in Belleville, Ontario where we purchased several items we could not get here.

On the way home we had to drive through the Canadian Forces Base which is where several of our grandchildren are for the summer camp.

Today will set record highs here in Ontario and the temperature will reach one hundred degrees plus or better by midday with no relief in sight for another week or so.

The Land Rover purred along with the air conditioner on low keeping us very comfortable.

The old girl saw them first, several flights of Air Cadets in uniform drilling on a hard surface parade square.

Good grief she exclaimed, don't they know what the temperature is?  She did not like the idea of those children/some several years younger than a teenager/teenagers and instructors out in this heat.

It is good for them, toughen those boys and girls up I replied.  The instructors know what they are doing I added.

There is nothing wrong with cadet or military training during above or below normal temperatures if done correctly.

Told the old girl she was going soft in her old age.... Huh    Roll Eyes

I am getting a cold shoulder and a hot tongue and it is not even supper time yet... Grin      Lips Sealed

If those cadets-in-training are like me, they'll be perfectly fine.
Cold really gets at me, but I don't know why, but strangely not even 110* F gets to me. I don't know why.  The only thing that annoys me with the heat is my sweat after about 30 minutes.

PS: Welcome back Flying Trucker and old-wife-gone-soft-with-cold-cold-shoulders-and-hot-tongue!!! Grin Wink Cheesy (No offense to you or your wife intended.)
