The most prestigious event in golf starts Thursday.
(Sorry R&A, you're older but this is the biggie.)
Notably absent: Tiger Woods, recovering from knee, Achilles tendon and personality injuries.

I'm hoping Tin Cup wins this time.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Calling U.S. Open course tough is an understatement
Quote:
Reporting from Bethesda, Md. — The U.S. Open likes its status as the toughest of the tough. If triple bogeys outnumbered birdies here at Congressional, United States Golf Assn. officials would be thrilled.
Veteran pro Jeff Overton played a practice round Tuesday, stood next to the 18th green, gazed back up its hill after he had finished, and said, "They could make this so that seven over par would win. Easy."
The course will play 7,574 yards, or 300 more than the last time they tortured the players here, in 1997. Then it was par 70. Now it is par 71.
Among its features are eight par fours over 460 yards, one par five of 636 yards and a par three of 233 yards. The highlight for the USGA thumbscrew crew is the finishing hole, a 523-yard par four. Yes, 523 yards — but that's OK, because it's downhill.
The Brits make up for it by scheduling horrendous weather for The Open Championship/British Open. We're going to have a little different weather - possible thunderstorms but temperatures in the mid 90's (33-35° C).
Kind of what I play with every day in South Florida. But I ride in a cart and they walk. And I have only played 4 rounds in a row once in my life - when I was much younger.
A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

Rory is just KILLING the field. Even with a double on the last hole. -11 par and second place is -5. Hopefully won't blow this 6 shot lead...

He now has a 7 shot lead at -12. Yang dropped back to -4, Jason Day and Lee Westwood are at -5.

It's not a joke as much as an observation of his declining relevance.

No collapse this time.
McIlroy -16
Day -8
Chappell, Garrigus, Westwood, Yang -6
The only record he didn't break was Tiger's largest margin of victory (15 strokes).

T'was some of the best golf I have seen in a while, and not just by Rory.

Wasn't very entertaining of a U.S. Open...only because Rory was playing lights out golf and everyone else was pretty much there....for fun. This years Masters had me on the edge of my seat the whole time it was on television. Oh well, onto the next major!
Sincerely, Tyler
