I can create both FS2004 and FSX textures.
Just so you know, in FS2004 I'm able to create textures that glow like neon at night, but only on some aircraft!

Hey guys. (and girls). I just noticed that the three aircreaft repaints I uploaded to Simviation one or two days ago aren't on the website for download. If anyone knows why that's going on please let me know.

Files have to be approved by an admin before they are added. This can take one or two days.
If a reason has been found that they think the files shouldn't be uploaded, then I'd think you'd be notified if you included your email address.

[quote author=Club508 link=1307915546/1#1 date=1307916488] I only know how to do FS2004 textures. For some reason, when I first tried installing a FSX texture I made for myself it was transparent (except for the windows and propellor), when I found some advice online, to restart the computor, (I don't know if this is better or worse), it made the textures translucent, and it made the textures randomly distributed on the plane and added an elevator rotated 90 degrees sticking off the side of the body of the aircraft!!!
If anyone is willing to tell me how to fix that, I'll happily start making FSX textures as well!

I am not sure whether this is going to come out for it is the first time I post in this forum, I am used to SOH fori...
Here it goes: I assume you are repainting an aircraft for which you have a full set of original textures... if so, then all you have to do is change your new repaint textures for the original ones... it the aircraft is basically the same... you don't have to do the bumps... etc. just redo the texture files that need to be replaced.. it is just that easy... i.e: it is just the same you do with layers... you change the layers you want to change and leave others such as logos, rivets, etc. intact... and voila' you have a repainted aircraft...

Hi,
I think you need to get a few things fixed.
The textures were B&W .. there was no thumbnail and the aircraft.conf was wrong - which would mess up anyone's 747 if they added it.
So:
1. Please test your repaint
2. Include an aircraft.conf edit with just the element that applies to your textures
--e.g.
[fltsim.x]
title=Boeing 747-400
sim=Boeing747-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=Boeing747-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing747-400_ref
atc_id=N747
atc_airline=
atc_flight_number=1123
atc_heavy=1
atc_parking_types=CARGO
ui_manufacturer="Boeing"
ui_type="747-400"
ui_variation="DHL Cargo"
ui_typerole="Commercial Airliner"
ui_createdby="Microsoft Corporation"
description="More than 30 years ago, the 747 made its first trip from New York to London. Since then, it's become the standard by which other large passenger jets are judged. Its size, range, speed and capacity were then, and are now, the best in its class."
Include a thumbnail inside the textures folder for FSX.
Also - we like to try to keep things fairly professional here and this image was included in your repaint as a preview

If you read the readme, that was an example I made to show how simple the drawing in the request could be. The actual aircraft textures were in the texture folder, the image that ends with _T.

By the way, the way I upload my textures is change one of the sections in the aircraft.cfg file to make the aircraft selection menu say like instead of maybe for variation, instead of "World Travel", say "AER LINGUS", like I did in my Boeing 747-400 AER LINGUS texture (which looked nothing like the basic sketch image).

One minor but very important thing that I forgot to point out.... sorry... "my bad"... I just did a repaint and it showed up all black...(not textures... lol)... Just as with CFS2 and 3... and FS 2000, 2004, etc. *** very important** IF YOU DO THE REPAINT IN 8 BIT COLOR... THE SIMULATOR WON'T SHOW IT... YOU NEED TO REDUCE TO 256 COLORS!!! AND THEN IT SHOWS... I routinely do it with PSP and forgot to mention it... it should work the same with Photoshop... (I sometimes use it)... you really do not lose much fidelity at all... my repaints look the same in the end... :-/ :'( ::)

The way I make the textures is that did all the stuff I mentioned is:
Step 1: Make copy of the files ending in _T or _t
Step 2: Open the copy in DXTBMP and save them as 24 bit windows bipmap so my image creator can open it.
Step 3: Repaint the aircraft. (I don't use layers)
Step 4: Copy the image and then paste into Paint.NET so the image and save it as a bitmap. (The image creator I use can't save a image you create.)
Step 5: Open the image in DXTBMP and save them as Direct Draw Surface DXT5 (aka: DDS DXT5)
Step 6: Make a copy of the entire texture of the aircraft I'm repainting.
Step 7: Delete the files ending in _T or _t in the new texture folder and replace them with the ones I made that have the exact same names as the ones deleted.
Step 8: Copy the aircraft.cfg file.
Step 9: Replace the text in quotation marks next to ui_variation to what I want it to say for the variation in the aircraft selection menu.
Step 10: Save and replace the original aircraft.cfg file with the new one.
Step 11: Test in FSX

I think you're a tad confused gaucho. 8-bit is the same as 256 colours. The FS2004 default textures are Extended 16-bit. When converted with DXTBmp graphics editors like PSP will display them as 24-bit. (16 million colours).
I think Cub508 needs to learn more about repainting aircraft before uploading any more.

In FS2004, my textures AWLWAYS work for me when I test them.
In FSX... well... that's where I run into problems.
So I don't need work with FS2004 Hagar, just FSX.

By the way you guys, (and girls), I'm currently working on creating some glowing textures for the default FS2004 Boeing 737-400. They glow at night when you turn the landing lights on. They should only take me about ten more minutes to complete all the conversions and I'm making this one a download you can just install into the aircraft folder on it's own so you don't have to move the aircraft.cfg and texture folders around. If one of you is willing to give me your email address I can go ahead and send it to you as an attachment so you don't have to wait the 1 or 2 days for it to be checked by Simviation for upload.

It's only a guess but if you're working in DDS format I suspect you need to flip the textures before saving them.
It's not necessary to reboot the computer for the new textures or any addons to display in any version of MSFS.

That would depend on how you flipped them to edit them. DXTBmp has a flip/mirror feature.

I don't flip them to edit them. I just open the file in DXTBMP, save it as 24 bit windows bitmap, then open in my image editor and start editing the pixels.

All five worked perfectly. In my opinion, of the five, American Pacific, Pacifica and the World Travel ones turned out the best. Make sure it's at night and turn on the landing lights to see the glow. Just give me your email address and I'll send them to you. They're for FS2004.

I just uploaded the plane so it should be up in 1-2 days. It's called "FS2004 Glowing Boeing 737-400". If anyone want's it early let me know and I'll send it to you as an email attachment so you'll have it without the wait. the download is stand alone so don't get rid o the default Boeing.

HI,
Again there are a few problems with this upload.
1. It contains the whole aircraft. For default aircraft please just upload the textures file
2. It contains the whole aircraft.conf file - which if anyone installs will mess up their existing FS9 B747 because it will overwrite their file. Please just include the edit for your textures like I described above. (the
[fltsim.x]
section)
3. No screenshot - please include a screenshot.
4. No readme - please include a readme or file id describing the file.
As you are here discussing your repaints and even offering to do repaints, it would be the natural thing to include some screenshots of your work so far.
Thanks

I FIGURED OUT HOW TO DO FSX TEXTURES!!!
So now, you can request a FS2004 or FSX repaint, but just make sure to specify which version it's for.

PS: Also, sue to being meant to be bad that's actually a good thing.

This is off topic, but with no repaint requests I got bored and repainted the default painting bird avatar to make these avatars. All of them have the color schemes of real birds.
Feel free to use any of them if you want.

I just uploaded a FS2004 World Travel livery package. If it passes inspection, it should be up in 1-2 days. It has 6 airplanes and one helicopter in the World Travel livery.
Here are images of one of the aircraft and the helicopter.

Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Notice how you don't find requests from the other repainters?
What people do is repaint for a hobby -- find a livery you like and create it within FS.

I just uploaded another package. This time it is the Emerald Harbor Air livery.
If it passes, it should be up in maybe about a week.

Oh brother... This is just not my day.
FSX has failed out on me, computor got major lag, found an error in my Emerald Harbor Air livery, an Airwave livery I'm currently working on isn't working out, I'm hungry but don't feel like eating anything, an FSX ground and cloud and sky pack I'm working on is driving me crazy, having troubles with YaBB again (as seen above), don't have a tester, my dad's going to make me mow the yard again today, and not to mention I'm bored.
Half of me wants to go to bed and half of me wants to be awake and be bored until I've got it all fixed.
I guess it's just one of those days.
But back to the positive, anyone want to be a livery tester?

In the post that you said "Hope this works," you copied a folder directory from your computer and pasted it in your post. Now, what is it that you are trying to do? You can't just post a link from a folder on your computer and expect it to be a download link or something. So, nothing is broken there. It just doesn't work.

What are the odds you'd be willing/able to make a repaint for the FS9 default Bell 206 in the style of Encom, from the original Tron film?
Specs: Asus Crosshair nForce 590 SLI,
AMD Athlon X2 6400+ w/ZeroTherm BTF90,
4GB G.Skill PI Series DDR2-800,
Sapphire HD4870 512MB,
PC P&C 750 Quad, in a CoolerMaster HAF932

Since the Bell 206B Jetranger III does not have a _L file, I cannot make it glow like I can the Boeings, but I can make the base textures if you're ok with that.

Hold on a sec, I got an idea. I actually, MIGHT be able to get to the glow. But I'll have to wait until I've finished the repaint to see if it will work.

The glow is a no-go, but I got the base texture. I'm going to need you to test it since I need to have someone else test them as well to double-check behind me. I'll email it to you as an attachment and then tell me if any edits need to be made.

Sorry guys... My parents are dragging me off to my grandparent's boring lakehouse again where I have no imaging tools or internet connection, so sorry but I'm going to be down for 2-3 days being bored. I absolutely hate how they do this, but being twelve and them being my parents sadly I have to do what they say.

Being as its a CRJ, the scheme would follow our Falcon's a white with a big red orange stripe and the small blue ones. If you need a Station, Traverse City CGAS is in need of Sim representation

Club508,
I saw your latest contribution in the library (Lear 45 repaint) and I have a question.
Did you get permission from Microsoft to re-distribute their copyrighted material?
Don't argue with idiots, they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I read the readme and noted that you acknowledge Microsoft's ownership of their files.
What I did not read was where Microsoft have given you permission to re-distribute their files.
You do not own those files, only a license to use them.
That license does not give you the right to re-distribute Microsoft's property.
Edited:
PS. I'm, not worried, I'm not the one violating US copyright law

So are you up for another one? I was thinking either a 747 repaint or a learjet. Something that look like you are important.
If it looks good, make it all black with some red here and there. If you can put this on it.

Alright Holmes_Fans. I have the texture sheets created. Now before I send them through my tester I need to know some things.
1: Is this image copyrighted?
2: Is 2KFProductions a real company of some sort?
If the image is copyrighted, I will need to know the name of the creator(s) and I will need permission to both freely distribute the image and permission to use the image on the aircraft.
If 2FKProductions is a real company, I will also need the company's permission to distribute this trademark and permission to use the trademark on the aircraft.

Don't worry, I got pete to take them off the site so I can fix that error. Cutting them down to just the texture files, readmes, thumbnails, and the sections you'll need to add to the aircraft.cfg files. Thanks you two! You two saved me from some big legal trouble!

Yes hyperprep111. And what kind of paintjob do you want for it? Also, is this for FS9 or FSX? By the way, I posted on that screenshot topic. Let me know how I did. Also, are you asking me to paint payware? Because I know they do alot of payware. And another important thing. I downloaded thier freeware F-14 A and B Tomcat and I remember it saying. "this software may not be edited for commercial or freeware gain" is that included in this download as well?
And I'm finding all kind of Iris vfs and tomcats and all of that stuff. Could you please give me the exact name of the download?
And are you asking me to paint the f-14 or the vf-31?
Sorry about all this, I'm just kind of confused.

And are you asking me to paint the f-14 or the vf-31?
Sorry about all this, I'm just kind of confused.
You're confusing me too.
I guess you could paint it for whichever you want fsx or fs 2004.
I just quickly went through the license agreement.
Quote:
These files are not to be reverse engineered or otherwise tampered with for commercial or freeware gain. These files may not be altered in any way without the prior permission of IRIS Flight Simulation Software. Any breach of the aforementioned copyright will result in the full force of law being brought to bear on those responsible.
Scary!!!
But I've seen other repaints here just search "Iris f-14" and they should come up. And why put a repaint kit When you don't want people to um, Repaint it
?
But It's up to you If you don't feel like it's safe then dont do it and vice versa
.
Quote:
And are you asking me to paint the f-14 or the vf-31?
This made me smile
. Vf stands for Aviation fighter or variable fighter
. The f-14 stands for "fighter 14" Hope this helps

From what you're saying above it just says the files can't be reverse engineered or altered...doesn't say you can't use the supplied paintkit as it is for making paints, just don't make changes to the existing files.
Clear enough really

I'll try to get permission from them. And sorry but that may take awhile, wi-fi here is awful right now. Getting only about two minutes at a time. What do you want the paint to look like though? And sorry about all that confusion. Still working on figuring out that kind of military "coding". C=carrier V=Attack F=Fighter H=Helicopter U=Utility I can only imagine all the others.

sorry hyperprep111, I can't figure out how to get Iris Simulation's permission. If you can figure out a way I can contact them to get permission, I'll ask, but I can't figure out a way to contact them.
Anyhow, I currently have no jobs on hand, and if you know much of anything about me it's that I like having multiple jobs on hand all at once and that I get bored with no jobs to work on.
So....
Anyone have any requests?

You could try the IRIS Forums.

Problom is I'm not a member and I really don't feel like making an account just to ask for permission and then leave. And besides, how could I tell if someone gave me permission that they actually had the right to give me permission?

Whoa! I was testing a Chrome Douglas DC-3 I've been working on on boy did I find out something shocking! In locked spot view I was looking around the aircraft, and I noticed that with a slight change in view angle, my frame rate would go from 5-10 to 70-90!
But sadly, that chrome may take awhile.

Sounds pretty easy. FSX or FS9?
And do you want the pilots and interior and stuff to look like sky and clouds too or like normal?

Permission to distribute the repaint.
Here's a quote from the readme:
Repacking or modifying this package and its contents is
not allowed without permission
.
Distribution of this file on the internet or other media is allowed, provided it is done for free and
without modifying the original file.

Ah i see. I guess this is a problem with painting on top of someone elses textures.
I discovered a couple of repaints similar to some id done, it was almost as if i was looking at my own work by someone else......I guess theres certain things that happen whilst doing a repaint (especially 'hand drawing' curves and lettering) that only the repainter would notice, small errors, tiny 'slightly out' spacing and so on, so to see those same 'errors' on another repaint certainly caught my eye - very strange!!! However, i cant prove anything and i may be wrong, and although i found it a bit startling, when you upload a repaint i guess theres not a lot you can do
I repainted two airline liverys as there were not any others available at the time, and because they had personal memorys for me!. Now however, there are. Same reg numbers also, but different aircraft models! Funny eh?!

Wow! That sure sounds like copying your work!
And knowing what i've seen from you, you're very good.
Speaking of which, what name do you upload things by? I think I'd like to get some of them!
But I think that's one of the strange things about me. I don't mind if other people use my work. I actually give them direct permission to use my paints in thier own repaints in the readme. In the readme, in basic, it says that so long as thier edit is released as freeware and that the full unedited copy of my work is also in the upload, and that there is no harmfull files in there, they can upload it. They don't even have to ask permission. It gives them full permission in the readme.

Oh i dont really mind
I never said anything in the readme regarding using my work for anything else. I just figured fellow repainters would strive to see there own work out there. It probably isnt mine, but noticing the 'errors' to be the same - well i dont know!
You can find some of my paints here, but on avsim, search for 'Simon Carrison'. I dont profess to be brilliant, and looking at them now they dont seem so good as they once did, but i got immense pleasure from doing them, and thats what counts

Your paints are very good
Seriously they are great and as you say you enjoyed it, which afterall is what it's about
Probably what you feel is your own improvement..each time you learn a new trick or build experience you become unhappy with all the previous ones you did...

Trust me, his paints are MUCH better than "very good". Especially with me. His paints are practically legendary with me!
And he's not the only one who enjoys making paints. I don't know how or why, but repainting is also a major stress release for me!
Speaking of self improvement, here's one of my many works in progress. it's not even done yet!
here's what I've got so far. there's both a regular and IFR version.

Sorry the images are so low qaulity. First of all they were too big and then I had to do MAJOR qaulity reductions to get them lower than 700 KB each.

Oh! Cheers Garry, thats nice of you to say
- The BOAC 747 is still a favorite of mine, and yes, your right, you see mistakes and things you could have done better but at the time it was a real breakthrough for myself to achieve what i did in such a short space of time. And most of if i did by picking your brains and getting advice from you
And so i say to Club508, theres a wealth of experience on these boards, it can do you no harm to use it - your paints will improve every time

There is always something you can do better or perhaps an easier way of achieving it.
Important thing is to keep trying and learn from each other
Even now I go through tutorials to see what's new
BTW..What do you think of my CL-44? (Screenshot Forum)

Yes, never give up, even if something seems impossible, someone, somewhere will have already come up against whatever problem it is your having and give you a solution.

i have been trying to make this for ages.
a sky patern on the default baron,i once made a decent one but a computercrash and it was gone.
and now every time i try i end up with a random formation of blue...
fsx.
and the pilots and stuff just normal,but i dont mean over the entire aircraft,just like a logo behind the engine,on the tail and a bit on the wingtips.
thanks for making this,i realy want it.
Sounds pretty easy. FSX or FS9?
And do you want the pilots and interior and stuff to look like sky and clouds too or like normal?
Hey, sorry jetprop, but I can't do it. Just can't get a single thing to look like it's supposed to, or anything to line up with what's next to it. tried many times to get it to work, and many diffrent search methods to try to find the original version you had, but i just couldn't find it. Sorry.
You'll have to get someone WAY past proffesional level to do that paint.

All right, first time i've done this. I need someone to co-op with me for a virtual airline package. I can get the main body right, but I can't get the wings right. The wings need to be yellow and black checkerboard. if you're willing to do the wings, please PM me.
Please be able to have the nuts and bolts showing underneath the paint, I don't want all black.

This is why you need to use layers
Perhaps a read of some repainting tutorials might help this problem

Oh i know, I use a diffrent tactic to get the nuts and bolts showing involving intensity and luminosity all and copying and pasting. but I think I may have just found a way around the misplacing of the checkerboard.
You may not get the exact idea, because I use a COMPLETELY diffrent program form everyone else.

If you copy and paste, then as soon as you paste you have a layer so your are working with a layer
So why not develop that further.
Make a new layer and set the new layer to multiply and the detail should remain visible..but it really needs to be over a wgite background

It's actually not originally meant to be just a image creator/editor. It's actually a computer game maker's built-in sprite (graphic computor image) editor. It has lots of usfull tools, some which you might not find in other programs, but it's not free. but it doesn't have layers. But it DOES have something much like layers. You see, it's editor is able to make animated images, so you can insert multiple images and do something like saturation and luminosity and hue all, and copy and paste whatever section you want of it onto the other image and line it up so it fits with just a few clicks and drags.
the program is called Game Maker 8.0 Pro Mode. It's not free though. but it is a multiple in one. Basic computer game maker, wonderful image editor, and a basic sound editor all in one.
yeah, I've branched around to pretty much everything in computers. Game creation, image and sound creation, playing games, programing, I'm just good with computers for some reason.

If you want to paint properly you will need to have a dedicated paint programme that supports layers..simple as that.
The programme you use sounds like a Jack of All Trades but is probably a master of none.
Already you are hitting problems simply because you are not painting with layers
Maybe try Gimp...not used it myself but it's popular and free.

It works perfectly for me. Not a single problom that I've seen from it. It gets the job done right and gets it done quick. not a one or the other thing. And I said it has something much like layers, just a bit diffrent. The only probloms I've hit are because of it being too difficult a job. For example, having to do a cloud texture for the FSX default baron or a maryland one texture for half the FS9 crew. And didn't you read the post about finding a way around it?
And every single repaint I have made has been done in Game Maker. it's my program of choice and I'm not changing anytime soon. I love that thing and I'm staying with it.
And also, it has something you can't do with other programs. Branch your work. It let's you duplicate an image in the program, so if you make a mistake and have already saved so can't undo, you can go back to the saved duplicate and add whatever you did wrong correctly instead of saving tons of images to achieve the same thing.

Is Game maker an easy program?
Yes, it is VERY user friendly. Every part of it is user friendly. Every thing is very easy to find. You'll pick up fast. Even the game creation part is easy. You don't have to type any programming. It has a little dock bay and you can just drag the programming bits to the object and it will do the programming for you.
But two cautions:
1. It can only save games in a format that only it will open.
2. It can only save images as PNGs, so you will need to copy and paste the image to something like Paint.NET to save it.
Just so you know, i don't remember how much it costs fo rthe base program, but to get pro mode with all the functions, it costs another $20.

Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
. Looks Like I'll just have to keep on saving until the shilling raises again against the dollar
. Have to wait another million years for that to happen.
But when I do I will Paiiiint till the computer explodes, fix it then Continue painting

Yeah, I know. In my paints, I just make the tail number so the user will easily recognize it over ATC. If they want to change it, they always can to make it more realistic.

Well, here's one for my FSX tester. If he likes it and it goes through, It should be up in a day or two.

Not for me to criticise but that registration is already in use. It's easy enough to find out, just type it in Google.
