A little help please.  Why is it that when I select an "IFR" flight in the Flight Planner, I often get to my destination and am given a "Visual Approach"?  Thanks for any and all help.

If visual conditions exist at the airport, ATC might give you a visual approach; fairly common even in real life. But you can still fly an ILS approach if you want, either using a published procedure or just intercepting the localizer at what looks like a workable distance from the threshold.
