In Mitch's 'Rate This' thread in Studio V, Manuel made the statement,
Quote:
and a Calypso pilot without a red woolen hat looks just wrong - but that's of course not under your control.
I of course, had to post that it is in fact in my control and asked if anyone wanted Calypso pilots with red woolen hats.
So being me, I just had to put some red woolen hats on my Calypso pilots.
And no, I'm not going to hog it, I'm going to upload it.
Leaving Victoria, en route to Craig, AK.
Close ups.

Going to do some research near here, so we need to set up camp.
Beautiful Craig, AK.
Thanks for looking.

Thanks.
But in searching for images of Jacques' pilots, I never found one where they were wearing them, only him.
And since this flight was going to Alaska, I thought about putting mine on, but there was no way to attach TrackIR. I did partake of some French whiskey though, Jacques Daniels.

Wow...well done Larry...I think that those shots are awesome....
Your post reminds me of a time when I was young and well rather dumb at times....
How to annoy your Captain...
I flew with an old war time bomber captain who had more combat four engine night hours than most have total flying time...
He was a wonderful teacher and really a great guy...he had to be...he put up with me for nearly a year...
He had one bad fault though...he was a Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey fan and quite the sportsman himself.
When we were flying cargo most times we didn't have to wear the company monkey suit, we could fly in blue jeans and T shirts if we wanted to...well until the union came in and that all changed...
Thats another story...
Well during the winter months or if we were going into the artic he would wear his old blue Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey touque...
So...what did yours truly do just to get him going...
I would wear my new Boston Bruins Hockey Team touque...
There just never seemed to be a dull moment...Larry...
Sorry to get so dam long winded again...
P.S. I cheered for the Boston Bruins because our kids were either Montreal Canadian or Toronto Maple Leaf Hockey fans...the old girl is a Toronto Maple Leaf fan even though she has many relatives living in Boston Massachusetts...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Never been much of a hockey fan, but I appreciate the story. And I do know who Bobby Orr is.
He was born the same year I was, but six months and one day earlier.
BTW Doug, did his touque have ears and a pom-pom or did yours? Guess that would have made it a boggan or sherpa though.
We generally call them 'watch caps', no ears, no pom-poms.

Hi Larry
Have several different types of tuques with matching scarves and here are several interesting Links if folks wish to read them....
What is a Toque?
The word "tuque" is a common spelling error of the french word "toque" which means cap or hat.
The word tuque/ toque was adapted in the English vocabulary in Canada as a result of the French Canadian influence. Originally a wool hat designed to provide warmth in winter, today tuques come in several different variations. Most tuques are tapered; they sometimes have ear flaps, and may be topped with a pom-pom, this style of tuque is sometimes referred to as a boggan or sherpa. Tuques may have a folded brim, or none, and may be worn tightly fitting the head or loose on top although the latter is considered more standard

Thanks Larry...
I very seldom wear a hat outside during the summer or winter, now the old girl will wear a summer hat and a winter hat depending on the weather.
We walk quite early in the morning and sometimes a hour prior to sunset.
Never found there was much need for a ball cap or any other type of headgear.
I had a grandson tell me the other day that some of the boys and girls wear ball caps at school and the teacher has told them wearing a hat all the time will make their hair fall out.
His mother does not want him wearing a ball cap all the time either and she has told him the same thing...
Not sure about that one...
Our parents used to tell us using Brylcreem on our hair would eventually make our hair fall out also...
http://brylcreem.com/index.html
Another interesting Link:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pomade
They used to call the airforce lads here Brylcreem Boys because a lot of them had their hair slicked down with Brylcreem.
I think that is why the airforce wore caps so as to save on flying headsets...hmmm....sounds good to me...
I wonder if it is just a fad or craze kids go through?
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

I've been wearing caps for a lot of years, still have a full head of hair.
Without looking at the link, "a little dab'll do ya".
I have not used anything on my hair since the eighth grade. But this reminds me of the old Bill Cosby joke about the sports figure and the kid in the restroom. "On you haid kid!"

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

I watched a few programs on them a very long time ago, but I don't remember the title. I suspect it was a
National Geographic project. Good stuff.

FSX, we've come a long way baby! Skunk Works is an official alias for Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs (ADP), formerly called Lockheed Advanced Development Projects. Skunk Works is responsible for a number of famous aircraft designs, including the U-2, the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk, and the F-22 Raptor. Its largest current project is the F-35 Lightning II

Never heard of it. But if it's got Bill Murray, it's gotta be good.
My favorite Murray movies, in no certain order, are Stripes, Caddyshack, Meatballs, and Groundhog Day. But I have yet to see one that I did not like.
