I think you're referring to the "Mustang whine/whistle". I'm told this is caused by airflow over the open gun ports. The Spitfire & Hurricane don't do it as the gun ports are covered with fabric.

Wow L.T. GREAT vid. Shocked  Thank you and thank you Hagar! If you fly Warbirdsim's P-51 Cadillacs, they make the same exact sound, starting around 200 knots!
