carrying on from part 1....

http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1302397576/0#0

it appears the weatherman was right... rain it is!

this plane has some power!! I'm able to take off half way down the grass strip... and its a small grass strip!!

...

admiring the scenery...

...

hurendous turbulance... this shot does not sum up the situation!!!

...

Heading back to 2S1... spotted the strip... but struggling to fight the gales...

...

this shot sums up the desperation I had to make this landing  Grin

I thought i could still make it at this point... a kick of the rudder to the right, a sharp drop of the left wing, and a quick prayer should fix this!?!

...

the crosswinds were so strong, i never managed to take another shot for this series of pics!!

.....STALL WARNING.....TREES.....CRASH!!!

Cry

Thanks for looking people!!

Comments and criticism welcome as always!

Two great sets Deano. Smiley

If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

thank you, i had great fun making these shots!!

i honestly thought i could still make the landing in the last shot... 9 times out of ten, i do!! but this isnt the easiest of aircraft to fly at 60-70 knots... trim goes out the window!

Hi Deano... Smiley

First of all...well done on the shots...very nice... Smiley

Hope you don't mind me giving my two cents worth... Grin

1st-great STOL aircraft
2nd-the runway is not too short or you would not be going
       there
3rd-the approach
-line up on an extended final when you notice the high
winds...crab the nose into the wind
-fly the aircraft onto the runway...power approach
-don't wait to sideslip in when already over the runway
as it is probably too late
-on final keep the nose crabbed into the wind and
and the aircraft heading directly at the runway and
       touchdown point
-use power to help control height...power approach
-do not straighten out with rudder and line up with
runway until you have your touchdown point made
-straighten out then drop a wing...adjust power
      -watch your airspeed
      -work the rudder

If you don't like what you see the first approach...Go Around...extent your final...take your time and fly the airplane...

It takes practice and experience, I have seen us have full rudder in, wing down and still move sideways off the centerline of the runway... Grin

The more you practice the better you will be and you don't need a good stiff crosswind to practice in.

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

thank you for your reply  Smiley

I thought i was doing fine but suddenly i found myself drifting heavily to the right of my planned approach. before i knew it i was nearly over the strip, and i guess i got cocky! tried to throw it down onto the grass, and instead, it threw me into the trees  Grin

as for the power, i know i need to keep it on, i just freak out at the speed creeping up!... i guess i need to remind myself that the runways IS long enough, as this aircraft can land on a sixpence when needed!!

thank you for your help, im off to Vashon Island now for some night flying... i've heard the weather is particularly stormy right now  Wink

oh and glad u like the pics!!

Very cool sets Deano Cool Cool

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

FSX, we've come a long way baby! Skunk Works is an official alias for Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs (ADP), formerly called Lockheed Advanced Development Projects. Skunk Works is responsible for a number of famous aircraft designs, including the U-2, the SR-71 Blackbird, the F-117 Nighthawk, and the F-22 Raptor. Its largest current project is the F-35 Lightning II
