http://205.252.250.26/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1301188524
This scenery wil be for Tongass Fjords from FSADDON Publishing.
A little dark....sorry. I wanted to show the night lighting
J3 on final....
There's not a lot of room here........and ignore the heli pad, it's gone now.
Got 'er to stop with plenty of room left though....after many practice attempts.
Tied down in the yard.....
Thanks 4 looking
Should be done soon
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

The ability to create something like this for yourself, not to mention the rest of us...well let's just say
my hats off to you

"My Island.. "
Long ago, on another forum dedicated to science fiction/ fantasy (Speculative Vision)..
(The scene: A small spacecraft has crash landed on a small island of a small planet after being hit by a heat seeking empty beer keg.... You'll just have to take my word on that, and believe me, trying to explain would get really, really complicated.. Trust me....
**********
About an hour later, Boikat and Tipper looked around the island that he'd put the ship down on. "Nice. I think I'll call it 'My Island'."
"Your Island?"
"No, 'My island'."
"That's what I mean, why do you get to call it 'your island', when I was the one who spotted it?"
"It's not 'Your Island', it's 'My Island'."
"Well, it's not 'Your Island' either!"
"That's what I just said. It's not 'Your Island', it's 'My Island'."
"Says who?"
"Who says what?"
"Who says that is 'Your Island'?"
"Nobody. It's 'My Island'."
"Says who?"
"Nobody."
Tipper counted to 'ten' in less that two seconds.
"What's the name of this island?"
"'My Island'."
"Your Island."
"No. 'My Island'."
"Then why not just name the whole bloody planet 'My Planet'?"
"Why?"
"Why not?"
"No reason."
"Then why bother to name this 'Your Island'?"
"It seemed to be the thing to do, and it's 'My Island', not 'Your Island'."
"Oh? Okay then, where's 'My Island'?"
Boikat looked puzzled. "You're standing on it."
"IiiiiiEEEEEEEE!" screamed Tipper, as she ran up the gang plank.
Boikat turned and looked at the damage to the port ram scoop. "Thank you Abbot and Costello..."

Have no fear Chuck, I'm about to post some daytime shots of My Island.
Wonderful job, but you can keep the runway. I'll use the fjord, thank you.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

You might be able to land a 185, but I doubt you can take one off. I did not make it with the Beaver and it is shorter landing and taking off than the 185.
Edit: Forget the 185, it ain't happenin', at least the landing part. And I think the only reason I could land the Beaver is because I was draggin' my feet, uh wheels.

Very cool shots Larry......nice landing
If you drain all but about 15-20% of your fuel, you can land the 185 here. It will take off with full fuel and three notches of flaps if you hold the brakes until the engine winds up

185....out and then back in
(under ideal weather conditions)
As far back as I can get....3/4 flaps...wind it up.......

After using up almost all of my fuel........down to about 15%....flaps fully extended.
I'm a bit under indicated stall speed but, I have a consistant 10 mph headwind.

It took a few scary aborted attempts

I managed to take off, it was the landing I failed at. And failed miserably.
I had set the weather with a 10 knot headwind, but failed to consider fuel weight.
I'm just not sure I want to take a trip to the island expending 85% of my fuel, not knowing for sure that I will even be able to land. Don't think I could do it
with a 30 knot crosswind and I'm not sure Angoon is within 15% fuel range, as I don't remember seeing a fuel pump on the island. Think I will restrict my flights
to the island either in a wheeled Beaver, or something with floats.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Goodly morning all...
Wonderful work and shots Chuck...keep up the great work...
Oh and in real life aviating folks:
If you can land and take off a Piper Cub there you should have no problem landing and taking off a DHC-2 Beaver or DHC-3 Otter.
My opinion (been there and done that to some extent but no one gave me a ball cap or T shirt) the DHC-3 Otter can get into locations DHC-2 Beaver can't...but that is just my opinion...
Have leaped an amphibious Otter, full fuel and five pax with kit into the air within the lenght of the aircraft.
Keep in mind also folks when you watch a STOL DHC-3 Otter climb...it is like a helicopter...she climbs with her nose pointed down. I won't go into the details but when the DHC-3 Otter was designed there were many many improvement over the DHC-2 Beaver.
I checked several sites on the internet to post some specs on the J3 Piper Cub, DHC-2 Beaver and DHC-3 Otter.
Three sites on each aircraft posted different specs for landplane only...don't figure.
I go by what specs we used military and commercial which are very close to each other for the DHC-3 Otter and by personal experience...
Sorry to get so long winded Chuck...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
