Hey guys, I know this has most likely been discussed to death but everytime I read a thread I just get lost in all the numbers and letters !

So obviously im looking for a new computer to run fsx with decent fps and graphics and was wondering if any of you helpfull chaps could recommend an off the shelf computer or any custom builds ?

Thanks for your time
Ben

I recommend building it yourself with custom parts. Or getting a computer store to assemble it with these parts or similar ones.

processor: Core i5 2500 or 2500K if overclocking
RAM: 4gb DDR3-1600 CAS latency (aka CL) of 6 7 or 8 @1.5v
graphics card: GTX 560 Ti
motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Pro
case: Fractal Design Define R3
power supply: Corsair HX-650 power supply
hard disk: 1tb 7200rpm hard disk

If you have a bigger budget

Core i7 2600 or 2600K if overclocking
8gb DDR3-1600 CAS latency (aka CL) of 6 7 or 8 @ 1.5v
GTX 570
ASUS P8P67 Pro
Fractal Design Define R3
Corsair HX-650 power supply
1tb 7200rpm hard disk
and a 120gb SSD like the new Intel 510 series or Corsair force series.

If you can't get those parts make sure you get the same processor, graphics card, and 4gb or 8gb of RAM. Also don't skimp on the power supply, try to get a seasonic, corsair, NZXT, superflower, enermax power supply that's 600 watts or higher.

i guess the milion dollar question is 'whats your budget?!'

let us know what figure you were hoping for and how much we can stretch that!!

i bought my rig a year ago and i paid just under 1000 uk sqiuds:

i run an I7 860 (2.8ghz) running at around 3.1ghz (stock cooling, modified case, simple overclock, runs at around 30-40 degrees C untroubled)

8 gig coarsair 1600 CL7 (i think) ram (never used anywhere near this - lol might have been overkill at the time!!)

motherboard is a P55 GD80. am very impressed. (not sure how many SIMV users have this I7 and P55 set up though... would love to know, as i think most of you went for the I7 920?!)

and a GTX 275...

the rest of my setup is fairly standard, and I acheive excellent FPS in most FSX situations, with settings near max, including 100% AI. my only let down is the graphics card... i just doesnt cope sometimes and jagies seem to be creeping up on me!! think this might be a driver issue but am yet to solve it!

hope this helps,

Deano  Smiley

(EDIT TO ADD: Welcome to SimV!!)
