Goodly afternoon all... Smiley

The old girl was out getting saved this morning, took several hours too...she has been bad I guess... Grin      Roll Eyes

I dropped into a local bugsmasher field and went for a quick flight around the cabbage patch before the snow hit us...we thought we would have a hour to play but two circuits was all we got before losing sight of the airfield once...that was enought for the pilot flying, decided to put it down...I never said a word...honest... Lips Sealed    Smiley

I think he lost a pound or two in weight... Grin...but at least he learned something...I hope... Wink

Well I told several of the Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers we were going to Hogtown (that is Toronto, Ontario) for you city slickers.
They call it Hogtown because of the way the drivers hog the road... Grin

This Wednesday is the day however the weather does look a bit bad right now so time will tell.

I was asked if I was going to pick-up any Payware for FSX as most of the old gang are patiently waiting for this new Microsoft Flight to come out.

Having had several PMs and reading Post Replies (and you lot thought I didn't pay attention to what you typed) here at Simviation with folks that have more knowledge on this Payware subject I told them I was going to look for the Cessna 185 and Amphibious Beaver Packages along with something that will help enhance the looks of FSX.

They all thought I should wait for this Microsoft Flight to come on line but gosh darn that might not be until next year so I thought we would pick-up several things.

Now the "BUT"...don't you just hate my "BUTs"?

I do not know what to purchase.
How many FSX Cessna 185 and Amphibious Beaver Packages are there?
What should I get to enhance FSX for the low and slow flying I like to do?

I am going to try Aviation World, Future Shop and Best Buy while I am in Toronto.

Information and ideas are what I am looking for and I do not want to load this electronic gizmo with too much just in case Microsoft Flight will not be compatible with what is on the market right now.

My plans are to build a Motion Flight Simulator (most likely have built from what is on the market now) and I do not want to put a lot of money into this unit which is still top of the line until Microsoft Flight hits the shelves... Wink

Thanks in advance folks... Wink

I shall now go and pour myself a wobbly pop and supervise the old girl who is preparing Sunday dinner.

On second thought...I shall just sneak a wobbly pop.... Grin

Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Doug, you want the Carenado C185F Bush package, as it has amphibian, floats, wheel skis, and tundra versions. I'm not sure if there is more than one Beaver package, but the

Aerosoft DHC-2 Beaver X has all four versions, amphibian, floats, wheel skis, and tundra. It also has a couple of liveries with standard tires, the float comes in both 5 and 8 passenger,

and there is a cropduster and firefighter.

As to scenery, for the US and Canada, GEX is very good, and they have it for Europe too. And for the Pacific Northwest, you can't beat Orbx FTX PNW, PFJ, and NRM, as well as FSAddon's Tongass Fjords.

They create a very large area in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Alaska, and Western Canada, that IMHO is some of the best there is.

Hope you find everything you want. I look forward to seeing some screen shots, if you can find the time to stop flying long enough to post. Roll Eyes

There must be a Hogtown in every state.  Around here it means Gainesville.

A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

I don't shop much in Toronto, (The self proclaimed center of the universe), but that  Aviation World looks promising. I've had a hard time finding FSX software in any stores around my town. Let us know if they have a good selection on the shelf, if so I might go check them out.

Hey Doug, glad to hear mama's gettin' right with ? What was his name?  Grin

Larry turned me onto the Carenado C185f Bush package, (they have two packages) and in my humble opinion it's the best FSX add-on I've purchased!
As far as scenery goes ORBX also offers the Canadian Rockies! (come to think about it the CR may be included in the Pacific North West scenery?)

Happy flying, Greg  Cool

Good afternoon all... Smiley

Well before I post my rant.... Tongue

I see there are changes since I was away...looks good... Wink

Well folks I had a very disappointing time in Toronto.
Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday I went to five of the largest Future Shops I could find to purchase the Payware I wanted for FSX.
No luck at Future Shop and it does not look like they are going to carry FSX add-ons in the near future.

I went to three Best Buy Stores...again nothing for FSX.

I visited several game stores in two very large malls...again nothing.

I went to Toronto Buttonville Airport and thought I could get something at the Prop Shop there.  They had everything but computer games, coffee cups, emergency kits, maps, books but nothing for FSX.
I know they used to carry some computer games at one time but not now.

I went to Aviation World near Toronto International Airport, one of my favourite stores who also have a three screen mock up of a flight simulator using FSX.  They have rudder pedals, joysticks, anything and almost everything you would want for aviation, real and simulated  they have, but they did not have the FSX add-ons I wanted.

They told me they would order them for me but it would take four weeks or more to get, well I might as well order them myself if that is the case.

The darn thing is they used to keep all that stuff.

Well folks I can not believe trying to obtain two add-on aircraft:
Cessna 185 Bush
DeHavilland Beaver
Plus some scenery add-ons could be so dam difficult to obtain.

I guess I shall have to order on line but I just hate to give my Credit Card Information over the Internet.

We did see the Mock Up which was full scale of the Avro Arrow at the Canadian Air & Space Museum at Downsview Airport at Toronto Ontario and just off Highway 401.

The CF-105 Arrow Interceptor was huge and was considered the most advanced supersonic interceptor in the world.  Much larger than the F15, F18, CF-100 or the Voodoo and had an internal weapons bay amongst other things.
A friend of ours took some picture which he will e-mail to me of the Air & Space Museum which I shall post after I get them.

There is also a Motion Simulator there as well which can simulate many different aircraft but because it is March Break here every child in the country is there waiting in line to try their hand at it.

There is a Youth Flight & Astronaut Program which is for ages ten (10) and up and run I believe three or more days.  Those you have to pay for like the Motion Simulator and there is a waiting list.

We also stopped at Flight Safety which is right by the airport and museum and had a great visit with some foreign exchange students and Canadian aviators who were learning to fly the latest Canadian Aircraft.

We spent one hour in a real motion simulator and if I tell you what it was and how much it cost you would all start crying....it would not fit in the Land Rover either...yes I tried... Grin

We shared a few wobbly pops with the lads and returned to our friends home and a great time was had by all.

Well that was our little four day trip folks so now I have to go look up some FSX Aircraft Add-on Payware... Smiley

Doug, I'm sorry you were unable to find what you were looking for. But in a way, it may be a blessing in disguise. Once you make a purchase or two online, you may find it to your liking.

And something else to consider, is PayPal. Many online vendors use it and that way, you only give your credit card info to PayPal, once. From then on, when you make a purchase at a

vendor that uses PayPal, you just choose that payment option. It only takes a minute or so for the transaction to be completed.

I am envious of your time in simulator. You do know you could have rented a truck from the Canadian equivalent to U-Haul don't you? Roll Eyes

Looking forward to seeing your post of the Air & Space Museum, as well as shots of your new payware.

Cheers,
Larry Smiley

Goodly morning all... Smiley

Old girl is off to be saved again...she is bad a lot... Grin

Thanks Larry... Smiley

Just a couple of things I forgot in the above post...
The Canadian Air & Space Museum
Adult Admission....about $10.00 Canadian
Senior Admission...about $ 8.00  Canadian
Parking Free
The Restaurant is called the "Hangar" and is licenced for alcoholic drinks... Smiley
Huge Sports Complex and Work out Center...members only
Two Simulators and one is the Viscount Airliner Simulator

Now I was also told to purchase a Credit Card which I can add money to.  Use that Credit Card to purchase on-line and I am able to add what funds I want to it when I want to purchase something.  There is no Credit Line to the card so it is useless to anyone but me.
Just found out from a chap here this morning that is the best way to purchase on line.

Sounds like a good idea to me.... Smiley

Hi Doug,

As an avid PC builder, gamer and simmer I feel your frustration about the lack of in-store software available these days.

Hope you get the software your looking for soon. Pay Pal or prepaid credit card is the right path for online purchases.

I'm with L.T. When I come back I want to come back as the Flying Trucker  Wink
