I'm putting together a sound sys for a new TV.

I ordered a (powered)  "Dayton Audio Sub-80"
In itself, the Dayton Audio "Sub-80" is nothing great, not too  bad, but not the best.

However, when you replace the stock "sub-80" speaker with a "Tang Band W8-740p" speaker (an easy replacement) the  "sub-80 is said to really come alive.
It will then give a real tight,  clean, bass even at low volumes and become a real bang for the buck sub.
The total price was  $167 shipped for both from "partsexpress.com".

I will then experiment adding Satellite speakers I have on hand or look for other suitable satellites.
The  sub has high pass filter Satellite speaker outputs and low level outputs.
It has variable low pass filter points and supports auto on and off.

If anyone is interested in how it sounds, I will post my opinions when I get the sub together.

BTW, the sound sys I'm putting together for the new TV (that has not been delivered yet) will also serve as the sound sys for a computer I have set up in the same room.
Then The "klipsch 2.1" sys I'm presently using will be moved to my computer sytems in my bedroom.

Even though I live in an apartment, I do like to make a little noise at times.

BTW, does anyone have any suggestions for very small satellite speakers that have crisp highs and midrange?

I  believe that most all  "multi media" speaker manufactures take a poor performing, very inexpensive  driver, put it in a suductive plastic box and sell it for a fortune.

Most people these days can't tell a good sys from a bad one.
All they want is a booming bass and they are happy so, this is what the manufactures give them.
It is is a muti billion dollar world wide industry selling crap sound to the masses.

BTW, even "Klipsch" who was once a very well respected audio designer and seller is also now selling a lot of garbage as is Bose.
I originally got the Klipsch 2.1 for a computer sys as many  people were raving about it. However, even though it is better than a lot of 2.1 systems,  it was still disapointing.  I was expecting something better from Klipsch.

So, those who are into good sound will often modify and/or design their own systems as they sound better and are far cheaper.

Wait until I build my main/satelite speakers using exceptionally good $15, 3" drivers ......yes, 3"
In fact, I just came from Home Depot to scout materials that I  might use to build them. I will give you a hint, I was in the Plumbing dept. Smiley

BTW, many are  replacing the 3' driver in the Klipsch Mro Media 2.1 system whith the same diver I am going to use (it's a drop in replacement) for a significant increase in sound quality.
I may eventually do this myself. Smiley

You may wanna look into PolkAudio for satellites.

I have a pair in my den for front surrounds.  They're about 1/3 the size of my Bose 201s, but sound three times bigger!

Plus, they can take up to 250 watts! Smiley

Actually, I really  like Polk products and always have.
They are one of the few speaker maufactures who have kepted their standards high over the years.
In fact, I was originally  looking  at "Polk OWM3" speakers before I decided to put my own sys together.

I  have limited space and will be using a "Lepai Tripath TA2020" class-T amp that is rated at about 13 watts RMS into 8 ohms This wiil be plenty for my pupose particulary with the powered sub if if you are familure with the little class-t amps.

Also, I just orderd  a "Sony XDRF1HD" HD Radio Tuner which has become a sort of hot item because of its very small  size and fantastic performance.
You can  easily connect them to a computer sound card for great computer radio sound but, I will be using it connected to the TA2020 amp. Smiley

BTW, I'm so glad you said the speakers can "take"  250 watts.
I am so tired of people saying this or that speaker will "put out"  X amout of watts.  Some peole don't have a clue.

EDIT:
As it tuned out,  I finally did get a pair of "Polk  Monitor 30B II" speakers.
I got a great deal on them.
My space for the TV  speakers is liminted so, they will have to do.

Like I said, I have always liked Polk products. Smiley
