Is FSX Deluxe w/Accel compatible with Windows 7. I'm looking to get a Dell Studio XPS 7100 desktop

Yes it is. Get a 64-bit versionof Win7 if you can and read the forums concerning tips on
installing FSX in Win7. Pay particular attention to posts related to issues with UAC.

I recommend installing FSX in it's own directory and on a seperate drive if possible.
Use a short path name such as "D:FSX" and "D:FSX SDK" .

It works okay, but there are two issues:

Add-on scenery is somewhat tricky and hit-or-miss, but there's a work around...

http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?205432-Windows-7-Scenery-Addon-Inst...

frequent crash when using the in-game menue, but there is a fix for that.

http://robbonline.se/How%20to%20fix%20FSX%20problem%20with%20windows%207%20UIAut...

Supposedly, that will fix the crash problem, but I've stiil had the crash occure after adding the "fix', but not as often.

Hi,

Am I lucky?

Personally I have had no problems with fsx w/acceleration  (fsx gold) installed in default location on win7, neither have I had any trouble with any aircraft or scenery installing.

I've had new laptop with win7 nearly a month and it's not crashed yet  Smiley  , maybe it will.

UAC has been turned on since first day of having laptop.
It did take me a few hours to realise there are two program files folders, one for 32 bit and the other for 64bit and not being aware will cause you problems.

I've just checked the fsx.exe file, I've never selected the compatibilty mode, I'm logged in as admin so I've not set the 'run as administrator' option.

When I started installing addons that rely on other things to function, I allowed win7 do the download, or to be more precise I allowed the website to check what i needed, if you do i'd expect it to download and install a 64bit versions but the addon will need the 32 bit version, this happened with me when I was adding aicarriers2

regards

steve

May the Mynd be with you.
So far my number of landings either passenger or pilot equal my number of takeoffs, but that is due to change Smiley
