is the GPS enteries part of the FAR EAST scenery? In other words is it in the respective .bgls or is it built into the gauge.

I would like to add some more locations for the GPS but if its built into the scenery than I wont be able to.

If any of you know how to do this and can help me i'd be very appreciative.

GPS gauges are programmed with standard latitude and longitude numbers, so you will need to learn how to do that....in a Chuck Dome programmable GPS gauge.   You'll have a learning curve.  Huh

And it is dangerous to start fooling with it without knowing how...as the result can corrupt your other existing GPS gauges.  Tongue

I can show you, but not tonight... Grin

I take it all back...what was I thinking?  Shocked   I'm not going to show you how to reprogram a GPS gauge, because you won't have the software needed.  Sad

There are GPS gauges you can use by entering the precise lat/long you wish to go to and it will take you there....so that's an option that you can download here at SimV.

If you want a few, with an emphasis on few, extra locations added to an existing GPS.gau, send it to me with the data (name of location and precise lat/long) in decimal format*.

* Example: N 33 30.02  W 126 30.05

PS  When you installed Steve McClelland's Far East Scenery package with the Fox Four stuff....you added approx 244 more fields in the Pacific area. Covers Japan, Korea, Vietnam, Nothern Malaysia, Northen Indonesia, Tawain, Brunei, Philippines.  Only a fraction of these fields are in any GPS gauge that I know of...primarily because the gauges have a capacity of 100 locations.

well most of the fields are in japan.
the rest have GPS already(all of the Korean ones). any way to find out which ones from japan are already available?

here are two that i'm interested in at the moment.

name=Honshu-Kuga (Iwakuni)
base_lat=N34 8.50
base_lon=E132 14.08

name=Kyushu-Fukuoka (Itazuke)
base_lat=N33 34.67
base_lon=E130 27.01

i might have a couple more but those are the main ones for now. if they are already available than i'll only need the numbers.

Yes, since you have McClelland's Far East installed already, open CFS2 in Freeflight, select an aircraft and click on Start Location.  Select Airbases and scroll thru the list....all of the airfields are listed there....the ones in Japan alphabetically by island, i.e. Honshu, etc.  I already have the lat/long of all of the Far East bases.  Smiley

What is currently in your GPS gauge depends on which Fox Four aircraft you are flying.  Each GPS could be a bit different as they were created over a period of four years.  Just scrolling through the particular gauge is the simple way to see it all.  Wink

You didn't send me the particular GPS.GAU that you want these added to?????????????   Or just tell me which aircraft you are flying, which will tell me which GPS gauge is in question.  Undecided

Never mind all this.  Wink

There are probably a number of folks who'd like to learn about the subject.  So I'm going to upload a program and a short tute on creating your own GPS gauges using the Chuck Dome GPS100A Reprogrammable Gauge.  Cheesy

I'll try to have it up in a couple of days.  Tongue

That is a truly a common mistake made by many folks as they get into CFS2.  Grin

At any rate I have just uploaded Chuck Dome's Reprogrammable GPS100A.GAU and the .EXE file used for modifying it.   The short instructions are straight forward, but need to be read carefully and thoughtfully.  The package also included a sample panel.cfg file for use in the installation of the GPS gauge.  Of course, if you are just replacing an existing gauge, that won't be needed.  Smiley

Download should be available tomorrow....

NOTE: GPS100A.EXE requires Visual Basic 6 Drivers.  If the program fails to run for you, I am also uploading a program that will install the needed runtime files for all programs created with VB6.  BUT just try running the .EXE first, as your system probably has the necessary drivers already.  Roll Eyes

The first screenie is the gauge itself, and the second is the software interface used to modify the contents of the gauge.

On the SimV homepage do a Search for 'Steve McClelland'.  At the bottom of the second page, download the CFS2Pac file and on page 3 download the fix for this package.   Now, you already have this scenery loaded, but the folders contain something that  you do not have and that is a complete list of the airfield names and locations (lat/long) in text format.  Cool

I was able to get the short tute on some various uses of the GPS100A. GAU and .EXE system, and have uploaded it this evening.  Perhaps it will make the download que at the same time as the GPS100AU.ZIP and the VB60Run download.  Cool
