Not good news for the most famous Polish driver... I hope he makes a full recovery!

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

He wasn't Matt, it was confirmed this was on a stage last I read.
He's a very very lucky chap. However its going to require a lot more luck if he wants to drive an F1 car again. I know thats the least important thing right now.

Kubica's surgeon
A quote from Dr. Rossello:
The situation of the hand was clearly serious, it was nearly amputated and we’ve reconstructed completely, first recomponing the fracture and then working on muscles and nervous tissue. The operation has been successful, i don’t want to say too much but we’re quite confident. Kubica should get back the total functionality of the hand for his vital functions and maybe his driving profession. However, it will need some time, perhaps a whole year of rehabilitation. By the way, everything’s been good.”
Looks like he's out this season. But possibility his career is going to be saved.

I did wonder at the time, as an F1 driver, he would have had better control (emotional control that is, though that is not a given in the F1 paddock
). We all have blond moments, but it was good to see that the stories have been updated and they where wrong. The same story was being carried in the German news, that being he was on the way to the race.
Ironically, the state of the car does not reflect the damage to Kubica himself. We have all so often seen a mangled bit of steel (gently smouldering) bits all over the place and the driver climbs out, brushes himself off and jumps into the spare car......
I wish him a speedy recovery and return to auto sport. Maybe Senna will get a second chance to prove himself this year

Like Kubica, point taken. Looks like he ended up wearing Armco barrier. Someone was watching over him that day
