I've always dreamed of finding a P-51 in a dusty old barn, but this tops that by 100%.

I can only hope that it's true. Smiley

PS. Mods, I wasn't sure if this should go in real aviation or other sites or what, so move it if you need to. Wink

Wonderful if true.

I would believe that they would still be government property though.

Have heard many stories just like that one about aircraft being buried or stored in underground hangars but the only thing I have seen was tanks, trucks, jeeps etc. properly serviced for storage and buried on the Canadian Dew Line.

"A leading aircraftsman” couldn't bear to see the magnificent aircraft destroyed, so he hid them away in an abandoned coal mine where they remain today."

And LAC is the lowest of the low and he could not bear etc etc hid them away...........don't hold your breath. A leading aircraftsman would not have been able to wipe his bottom without approval from an officer let alone organising to have crated Spitfires moved to a mine and hidden away. Urban myth me thinks, however I would be very happy to be proved wrong.
